About Our Opportunity

 

The Business Intelligence Server & Application Specialist is responsible for the deployment and maintenance of environments and applications that host or support the data analytics and science needs across government. They are part of a team committed to a client-centered strategy ensuring developers and end-users have the tools to access and analyze their data to make informed business decisions.

Primary Accountabilities

Under the direction of the Manager, Data & Analytics, this position is responsible for:

 

Maintenance and effective operation of application servers (including but not limited to Tableau and Cognos) to ensure security and optimal performance:

 

– Configuration of users, roles, and maintaining/ensuring security.

– Performing regular checks and remediations; identifying and resolving issues that may arise in the servers.

– Applying patches or updates, and ensuring that any new features are made available.

– Data backups and disaster recovery; ensuring that there are mechanisms in place to restore the server applications and their data in the event of a failure.

– Identifying and communicating opportunities for optimization and enhancements to management.

– Ensuring the maintenance of any other related software components, including for example conducting regular updates and ensuring they are compatible with the current version of the application.

– Conducting and communicating impact assessments for any other impacted software prior to installing updates and keeping management informed.

Primary Accountabilities will also include:

  • Monitoring and maintaining operational and project schedules.

 

  • Participating in data migration, metadata creation and data validation activities, as well as in all phases of implementation of the data warehouse roadmap.

 

  • Designing and creating framework and data warehouse models, data marts, and data stores, while ensuring high levels of data availability.

 

  • Developing, modifying or enhancing databases, programs, networks, administrative applications and/or electronic tools to facilitate and improve services.

 

  • Provision of tier 3 level technical support: working directly with end users and other technical teams, by troubleshooting and repairing software (web-based applications, databases, productivity software) and implementing corrective action to ensure timely resolution of users’ IT issues.

 

  • Developing and implementing IT guidelines and procedures for their area of expertise, keeping in line with the objectives of the CSDS to ensure consistency and reliability of the services provided

 

  • Attending team meetings and communicating (verbally and in writing) team and project issues to management

 

  • Presenting findings, recommendations, and specifications both verbally and in writing.

 

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will:

 

  • Possess excellent problem-solving and communication skills, and work independently as well as collaborate with team members.

 

  • Have excellent time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines, in consultation with the Manager.

 

  • Strive to provide excellent client service as part of a team.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science and three years’ related experience, or successful completion of a recognized information technology course plus a minimum of three years and six months related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

Candidates must demonstrate the following skills and work experience in their resumes:

 

  •  Implementation, maintenance, security strategy, performance monitoring and best practice methodology of IBM Cognos or Tableau tools.

 

  • Administration of multiple Cognos or Tableau servers.

 

  • Ongoing operational support for multiple clients.

 

  • Design, development and support of data assets including data warehouses, real time databases, and metadata.

 

  • Data migration, metadata creation and data validation; design and creation of data models and data marts.

 

  • Proficiency in Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL; ETL tools (Extract Transform Load), data extraction.

 

  • Analysis and interpretation of business requirements; data analysis authoring capabilities (canned and ad hoc) using IBM Cognos or Tableau tools.

Working Conditions

 

  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.

 

  • May be required to work overtime on occasion.

 

  • Hybrid working from home/office policy.

 

  • 24 hours standby rotational shift with other co-workers on weekends with specific compensation.
