Job Description:

Data Engineer Senior

The Chief Data Officer (CDO) Data Architect sets the stage to turn data into action, providing transformative solutions to USAFE-AFAFRICA big-data obstacles and helping to advance the mission.

The CDO Data Architect manipulates data and data flows for both existing and new systems. The CDO Data Architect provides support in the areas of data extraction, transformation, and load (ETL), data mapping, data extraction, analytical support, operational support, database support, and maintenance support of data and associated systems. 

The CDO Data Architect works in a multi-tasking, quick-paced, dynamic, process-improvement oriented environment that requires experience with the principles of large-scale (terabytes) database development, large-scale file manipulation, data modeling, data mapping, data testing, data quality, and documentation preparation.

Deliver effective and innovative Defense CTO solutions to complex data problems as a solutioning expert. Tailor cutting-edge solutions to the unique requirements of our clients.

The Senior Data Engineer provides expert support, analysis and research into large data problems and processes.  Applies advanced technical data principles, theories, and concepts.  Works on data-centered technical problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative.  Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results.

This position is within the Defense CTO where you will work with our European program teams to deliver differentiated AI/ML/Data solutions.

What you will need to succeed:

Education:

  • Bachelors of Science in a STEM-related field. An MS in a STEM-related field counts toward four years of experience.

Education and experience requirements may be substituted with:

  • Master’s Degree (in subjects described above) with three years relevant experience
  • No degree and nine years directly related experience

Required Experience:

  • 10+ years of related Data Engineering/Data Management experience developing data management policies, data pipelines, hybrid cloud-based data architectures, and experience working within the Department of Defense
  • Expertise in Data Management best practices, design and engineering for large-scale data systems
  • Ability to translate end-user’s high-level requirements into detailed data products
  • Ability to assist in the architecture and development of batch and streaming data ingestion pipelines.
  • Architecting and engineering modern, federated / disparate data stores into a unified data platform including the ability to create/expose data-oriented APIs
  • Centralized and distributed database design and engineering that supports flexible indexing and federation of query capabilities
  • Data governance design and meta-data and data tag management with robust data encryption and data sharing capabilities.
  • Monitoring performance and capacity and advising on any necessary infrastructure changes.
  • Defining data retention policies.
  • Knowledge and use of Cloud-based technologies and techniques.

The likely salary range for this position is $110,500 – $149,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

Total compensation for international positions varies by tax, social security, and immigration statuses, as well as location. Generally, an international assignment may include allowances, premium uplifts, and/or relocation or transportation benefits, above base salary range noted.
