POSITION DESCRIPTION


POSITION TITLE:
Computer Science and Technology Teacher


FLSA:
Exempt


QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related CTE degree. Must hold proper state certification.


REPORTS TO:
Director of Instruction


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10-month employee. Work days based on school board approved calendar


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Create lesson plans based on North Carolina Computer Science Standards
  • Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives
  • Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning
  • Maintain computer laboratory free of liquids and food items
  • Ensure students remain connected to school relevant websites
  • Remain current on changes and advancements in computer technology taught in the classroom
  • Attend professional development trainings related to computer science education
  • Effectively implement district initiatives
  • Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers
  • Ensure computer equipment is functioning properly and correctly inventoried
  • Petition administrators for updated hardware and software for the classroom as appropriate


OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations
  • Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators and supervisors
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
  • Serve on campus or district based committees
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education Content Area (Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, Entrepreneurship, Finance) PLUS two years’ work experience within the past five years in a related field.
  • Prepares teachers to implement a curriculum designed with flexibility in mind. The curriculum allows for each unit to be taught alone, combined into collections that focus on specific areas (like Artificial Intelligence), or as a full year course. Students engage creatively with computer science concepts and skills to build websites, apps, games, and physical computing devices.
  • Prepares teachers to implement a rigorous, engaging, and approachable curriculum that explores the foundational concepts of computer science. Students can explore how computing and technology can transform the world we live in. Can be offered as an introductory AP course. Designed for students with no previous background in computer science.
  • Teaches North Carolina Essential Standards for Career and Technical Education. Courses may include any courses within the Computer Science and Information Technology
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction, and for instructional environments, which help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social
  • Conducts lessons or instructional activities at a brisk pace.
