About Data Engineering

Data plays a critical role in every facet of the Goldman Sachs business. The Data Engineering group is at the core of that offering, focusing on providing the platform, processes, and governance, for enabling the availability of clean, organized, and impactful data to scale, streamline, and empower our core businesses.

Within Data Engineering, we focus on offering a comprehensive data platform, Legend, which we have made available as an open-source product.  Legend includes a full data modeling environment, as well as the execution of data access and controls, and a vast set of value-add products which allow our business users to operate more efficiently.

Leveraging our own Legend offering, our engineers build efficient data solutions that source, curate, and distribute critical data to our businesses, including financial product, pricing, transaction, and client reference data. Our engineers collaborate closely with the business to design and curate business-specific data models, and to transform and distribute data for optimal storage and retrieval.

With the Client Data Engineering team, you will be responsible for helping improve the quality Reference data, our curated data offerings, and how the business uses data. We tackle some of the most complex engineering problems across distributed software development, optimizing data access and delivery. Using firm’s in house tools we help curate data, or engaging with businesses to ensure Regulatory data needs are met, and we react quickly to new demands by rapidly evolving our data solutions. Using a combination of computer science, finance, and math skills, we build and support complex and critical software products that meet the ever-changing business needs and regulatory environment. We offer exciting opportunities for a strong analytical candidate with good software development experience.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Being a self-starter is essential,
  • Strong negotiation and relationship skills to bring Engineering and Business project sponsors and stakeholders to the table to build complex solutions while balancing competing priorities.
  • Manage issues concerning process/App failure and ensuring accountability by escalating to the right stakeholders.
  • Proactively solve data quality issues from both tactical and strategic perspectives
  • Proactively work on monitoring and managing external sources and feeds (e.g. GLEIF, BIC, FRN, Moody, Fitch etc..) to ensure we have the highest quality data in our systems
  • Understand & manage crucial aspects of the client entity data life cycle for all banking businesses from both a regulatory and revenue standpoint.
  • Manage supervisory and compliance risk by monitoring controls of sales org hierarchy, reporting lines & compliance coverage crucial to strategic business planning.
  • Maintain and manage the client activity reporting model for the Global Markets business to ensure accurate entity onboarding & lineage.
  • Managing corporate actions on proprietary systems to ensure accurate reporting of events & attributes associated with the client entity.
  • Manage the workflow of sales coverage allocation/mapping, trader access & CRM systems for the global markets business.

  • Highly motivated
  • Risk based judgement – reviews problems and can research appropriately across systems to determine next steps including appropriate escalation.
  • Communication of ambiguous concepts – demonstrated ability to describe complex concepts across groups that do not always use the same jargon.
  • General communication – essential for interacting at all levels, across business disciplines and regions.
  • Workflow Prioritization – demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize a diverse set of work tasks, takes ownership of completing tasks and works well under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Technical ability – demonstrates ability to grasp complex processes and workflows.
  • Teamwork – works well within a team of diverse individuals and high standard of execution and delivery towards common goals and objectives.
  • Client service – demonstrates effective management of internal stakeholders and/or external clients through effective relationship management and high standard of service.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL/Python
