Job Description

Position Summary

As a Data Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in analyzing and interpreting complex data sets to provide actionable insights that support our strategic and operational objectives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance our energy management systems, improve efficiency, and drive innovation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect, clean, and analyze data from various sources, including broadband project data, pole attachment data, engineering and operational data, outage data, meter data, member data, financial data, corporate data, and market data. Develop and deliver regular reports and dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs), verify key system changes such as new rate implementation, and support decision-making.
  • Trend Identification: Identify patterns and trends in energy usage, efficiency, cost, and operational performance. Provide recommendations to optimize energy distribution, reduce costs, and improve overall system performance.
  • Model Development: Create and maintain models for key functions of the cooperative.
  • Data Visualization: Develop clear and compelling data visualizations to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders. Use tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cooperative employees and department heads to identify opportunities for process improvements, recommend system modifications, and develop policies for data governance.
  • Data Integrity: Ensure data accuracy and integrity through rigorous validation processes. Maintain comprehensive documentation of data sources, methodologies, and analytical procedures.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data analysis. Propose and implement process improvements to enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Other: Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.

Competencies

  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to use data analysis tools and software (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). Experience with energy management systems and databases is advantageous.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to dissect complex data sets and provide clear, actionable insights. Adept at identifying trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Problem Solving: Proven problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing data-related issues and operational challenges.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in data analysis and reporting, ensuring reliable and precise outcomes.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with colleagues across various departments to achieve common goals.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and changing business needs. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Innovation: Demonstrated initiative in proposing and implementing innovative solutions to improve data processes and energy management practices.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in a data analysis role, preferably within the electric energy sector or a related industry.
  • Other: Strong mathematical skills to help collect, measure, organize, and analyze data. Technical proficiency regarding database design development, data models, techniques for data mining, and segmentation.

Physical Demands

This position requires that the individual spend most of the day at a desk, in front of a computer, answering phones and interacting with coworkers and members. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

Frequently see, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use arms, hands, and fingers to handle, type, feel, and reach.

Occasionally stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, crawl, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Some offsite work will be required for meetings, seminars, training, and other company functions. Some overnight stays may be required.

Work Environment

The work environment is a climate-controlled office environment with low noise levels.
