Job Description
ARES is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect to provide Agency level Principle Enterprise Architect capabilities in support of NASA OCIO’s Strategy and Architecture Agency Level Office (SAO) in support of the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency’s enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications through the use of the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM).
From photographing rocket launches and recoveries, to producing NASA TV segments, to information technology management, to using social media to share NASA’s message, eMITS integrates services for NASA IT and provides NASA’s communication to the outside world.

This position will include but not be limited to the following activities:
- Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies in the data architecture discipline.
- Each architecture deliverable shall have hooks back to the SAO Enterprise Architecture in a readable and understandable manner, as well as be modular and linked to other architecture domains.
- Create comprehensive documentation for data architecture components.
- Identify opportunities for data integration and optimization.
- Collect and review existing NASA mission, center, and mission support data architectures for consideration into Enterprise scope.
- Illustrate the application of data reference architecture to IT solutions to key decision makers in a tangible way to understand impact, additional resource requirements and added cost the architectures might impose.
- Link DAs to other domains such as Security/Zero Trust, Applications, Business and Cloud Architectures.
- Create, review, and present data architecture models that comply with industry standards and best practices.
- Ensure data architecture is compliant with data security and access controls.
- Develop data governance policies and procedures and report to the SAO any discovered or suspected violations.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and industry standards.
- Support the creation and maintenance of Data Roadmaps.
- Define the touchpoints where data stewardship meets architecture.
- In collaboration with SAO and other data management Agency leaders, work with data stewards to develop current state and future state data architectures.
- Effectively communicate complex architectures to executive audiences and technical stakeholders through the creation of presentations and written summaries, and by active meeting participation.
- Develop and maintain data architectures on SAO intranet sites.
- Articulate in architecture how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be leveraged to enhance data management.
- Coordinate architectural benchmarking activities with other industry and federal agencies.
- Work with Chief Data Architect and working teams to complete the Data Discoverability Architecture for agency review cycle and assist with iterating on clarifications and updated language.
- Build on the Data Discoverability Architecture with complete coverage of agency data aspects including coverage of NASA data domains.
- Perform updates on data roadmaps reflecting enhancements to overall data architecture effectiveness.
- Work with Data Stewardship CoP to elicit high-value data assets.
- Map data assets to first-order data map based on NASA departments.
- Devise an iterative process to refine in breadth and specificity the current state data architecture.
Remote, hybrid, and onsite positions the employee bears travel cost to nearest NASA Center for badging and issues of NASA IT equipment.
Minimum Requirements:
- Excellent stakeholder management, communications, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing enterprise-wide architecture strategies and roadmaps.
- In-depth knowledge of architectural frameworks and methodologies (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman).
- Strong understanding of cloud computing, microservices architecture, API management, and DevOps practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive consensus on architectural decisions.
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Lync, Teams, OneNote, One Drive), SharePoint, and Box.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in managing projects within the NASA environment.
- TOGAF Certification
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
Education and Relevant Work Experience:
Minimum education – BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer/Software Engineering, or an IT related discipline
Minimum experience – 15 years of past federal experience documenting data architectures (reference, current state, target state), ability to discern proper level of specificity by striking the right balance between abstract and solution architecture(s) and building a reference data architecture leveraging a framework such as DODAF, TOGAF, Zachman, or ArchiMate. It is desired that the employee has experience in ArchiMate modeling standard and Archi tool modeling experience, modeling EA/Data Architectures (DA) using one or more frameworks such as TOGAF, DODAF, or Zachman.
