Job Description
You will also be leading a small team of 2 (an engineer and an architect, both based in Berlin) and working closely with the VP Data and Analytics to deliver on the roadmap for our data strategy.
You will be responsible for:
- designing, building and maintaining our pipelines and warehouses/lake houses;
- tracking data quality and health;
- ensuring appropriate availability and latency for our data products;
This is a predominantly hands-on technical role (50%) with 30% spent consulting with the wider business on their data needs and 20% as a team leader.
Key requirements of the role:
- Lead the Architecture and Engineering function, managing the team, dealing with workload management, performance and personal development.
- Design and build highly-scalable data models establishing a coherent, single-source of truth for Omio data.
- Establish governance processes around access control and reference- and master- data management.
- Manage our data pipelines and data quality infrastructure, ensuring high accuracy and low latency.
- Work with Analytics Engineers to define and establish non-functional requirements for production data products.
- Manage our GCP estate, tracking usage and costs.
- Own the data tool stack, ensuring high productivity and a great developer experience for all our data practitioners.
Qualifications
The ideal profile for this role will be someone who:
- Has extensive experience of delivering complex data architectures within GCP
- Has deep knowledge of multiple approaches to data modelling across relational and non-relational approaches.
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities of working with very large, volatile and heterogeneous datasets.
- Is able to communicate complex technical concepts in simple terms, to build consensus and bring people with you.
- Are fluent in English; additional languages are always valued at Omio
- Is a team player with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Has a solution oriented approach to problem solving
- Key technologies: GCP (BigQuery, Looker, Airflow, dbt, Docker, SQL, Python, Terraform)
- Experience in large-scale data processing with Apache Spark or similar technologies, and proficiency in Scala, Java, or Python
