Data Engineer
Job Description
- Tou must be able to integrate, rearrange and consolidate large volumes of data over many systems, providing a new unified information base for business intelligence.
- You must be able to develop, construct, test and maintain architectures, such as databases and large-scale processing systems.
- Creates data sets by extracting large amounts of raw data from multiple different operational systems and copying into a data warehouse, application or database system
- Cleans data to identify and remove human, machine or instrument errors, validate records, apply formatting and remove codes that are system-specific.
- Well-versed with advanced data cleaning algorithms, practices and be able to fill missing data as per the domain requirements
- Transforms data between different schema formats (well-defined, quasi-defined and undefined), be able to handle schema drifts.
- Recommend and implement ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality.
- Employ a variety of languages and tools to marry systems together or try to hunt down opportunities to acquire new data from other systems.
- Ensure that the architecture that is in place supports the requirements of the data scientists and the client.
- Develop data set processes for data modeling, mining, and production.
- Employ data governance and cataloging practices to improve data gathering, usage maturities within business units.
University Degree or Technical Diploma in the field of Computer Science or another Technical field – Essential
Knowledge, skills and experience
- 7-12 years of cumulative experience in data engineering.
- Excellent knowledge of T-SQL, Power Query, Hive, Spark SQL querying languages.
- Experience with dealing data that is relational, key-value pairs, documents, non-structured and non-linear data.
- Experience with ingesting, processing and reporting on time-series data.
- Excellent command on data visualization using PowerBI or equivalent visualization solutions
- Solid understanding of mathematical concepts of data representation, summarization and statistical measures and reporting.
- Extensive knowledge of data processing, hardware platforms, software applications, and outsourced systems
- Excellent understanding of project management principles.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as they relate to data ownership and transfer issues.
- Exposure to advancements on data engineering practices and new frameworks and methodologies.
- Excellent practitioner of engineering data using data pipelines like Azure Data Factory.
- Solid understanding of foundational data structure algorithms and practical knowledge of implementing them in the business context.
- Excellent practitioner of integrating machine learning into data pre-processing, processing pipelines.
