Data Engineering Manager

Salary – National £40,000 – £50,000, London £50,000 – £60,000

We’re seeking a skilled Data Engineering Manager to join Aviva and drive our data initiatives to new heights. In this role you will help to shape the future of insurance through cutting-edge data delivery and predictive analytics.

A bit about the job:

Join our team to take on the exciting challenge of building and implementing data pipelines and MLOps features. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting our automation-first approach, ensuring efficiency and scalability in our processes. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to develop and share your expertise in data structures and metrics, advocating for necessary changes to drive product development forward. Embrace our Agile and DataOps approaches as you contribute to our culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and robust code in SQL, Python, Scala, Java or similar languages – preference SQL and Python

  • Experience in data pipeline software engineering and best practice in SQL and python (linting, unit tests, integration tests, git flow/pull request process, object-oriented development, data validation, algorithms and data structures, technical troubleshooting and debugging, bash scripting

  • Experience with analytics (descriptive, predictive, EDA), feature engineering and python visualization libraries (e.g. matplotlib, seaborn or others)

  • Experience in data architecture, data warehousing and modelling techniques (Relational, ETL, OLTP) and consider performance alternatives

  • Experience of working in agile teams is required and must possess a willingness to be part of a highly collaborative team and to work closely with the customer.

  • Starting salary – National £40,000 – £50,000, London £50,000 – £60,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
