Position Overview:
Dow Jones is looking for a Data Governance Analyst to join our team and play a pivotal role in harnessing the power of data to drive business enablement and efficiency. Our data governance framework ensures data accuracy, security, and accessibility. As we implement a new data catalog tool, the Data Governance Analyst will oversee its implementation, maintenance, and alignment with our data governance policies. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to ensure data integrity, quality, and compliance. Additionally, the Data Governance Analyst will support broader data governance initiatives by developing and enforcing governance standards, conducting data quality assessments, and improving internal documentation. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of data governance principles, strong data and analytical skills, a passion for data and organization, and a willingness to be challenged and learn.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the implementation of data governance tooling and projects, including data catalog solutions, from idea to completion.

  • Develop and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.

  • Establish and maintain governance standards around data lineage, quality management, and reporting by collaborating with governance leaders and relevant business units.

  • Collaborate with data owners, technical teams, embedded business analysts and stakeholders to ensure accurate and consistent data definitions and standards.

  • Monitor, identify, and remediate data risks and issues within workstreams.

  • Conduct data quality assessments and implement improvement initiatives.

  • Provide training and support to data users on data governance best practices and the use of data governance tools.

  • Improve internal technical documentation of data processes and procedures.

  • Set and manage OKRs, and interface with PMO to establish priorities, provide recurring progress updates and ensure projects are staying on track toward business goals.

  • Stay updated with changing regulations, policies, and industry trends in data governance and data cataloging.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.

  • 2+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or other data related fields.

  • Understanding of data governance principles and/or a willingness to learn best practices.

  • Foundational understanding of regulatory requirements related to data governance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

  • Familiarity with Excel/Sheets and SQL or a SQL-like language.

  • Basic understanding of big data environments (e.g., BigQuery, AWS Athena, Airflow).

  • Experience working with technical, data and business teams.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with a diverse team of stakeholders.

  • Experience with a data catalog tool is a bonus.

  • Interest in the media/publishing industry and/or subscription business is a bonus.
