Job Description

Introduction

Are you a master student in Data Science, Data Analytics, or a related field, looking to apply you technical skills and innovative thinking to real-world challenges? If yes, this graduation assignment could be interesting for you!

Background information

The Strategic Sourcing & Procurement (SS&P) department is responsible for all commercial and operational supplier interactions, supply chain phase-in and phase-out of new and changed products, integrated supply chain planning, customer supply chain management on spare parts and upgrades, logistics operations and spares. Within this organization, the Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) department is responsible for the supply chain introduction and industrialization of new products.

During this project, we aim to pioneer a predictive approach to managing and improving the efficiency of product development within our company. The focal point of this assignment is to build a model that can accurately predict the Product Generation Process’ “Key Decisions Taken on Time” metric, a critical indicator of project management success and supply chain efficiency in the introduction and industrialization of new products.

Currently, our approach to track and ensure project milestones are met in a timely manner is reactive rather than proactive. With your contribution, we want to shift towards a data-driven, predictive model that leverages historical data of over a hundred products’ development cycles. Your work will directly contribute to refining our project management strategies, ultimately enhancing our overall supply chain performance.

Your assignment

The assignment consists of the following activities and steps:

  • Define the scope: clearly outline the parameters and objectives of the predictive modeling project.

  • Conduct data analysis: deep dive into our rich repository of product development data. This involves understanding the dataset’s structure, performing necessary data cleaning, and preparing the dataset for analysis.

  • Model Development: develop or apply a suitable algorithm that leverages machine learning to predict whether key performance metrics will be met on time. The model should account for various factors that influence the project lifecycle.

  • Model Validation: test the accuracy and reliability of the predictive model, ensuring its efficacy in real-world scenarios.

  • Knowledge Transfer: present the findings and the model to the SS&P PLM team, explaining its functionality, benefits, and potential impacts on our project management practices.

  • Future Roadmap: Propose how this predictive model can be integrated into our ongoing and future project management frameworks, including suggestions for further refining the model and exploring additional use cases within our company.

Your profile

To be the perfect match for this internship, you:

  • Are a master student with a background in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a closely related field with a strong quantitative focus.

  • Demonstrable skills in Python for data analysis, including familiarity with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch for machine learning and data processing tasks.

  • Have experience with data analytics and modeling tools. Familiarity with SQL for database querying, and advanced proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS) is also beneficial.

  • Have a solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, including but not limited to regression, classification, clustering, and neural networks. The ability to apply these algorithms to solve problems and enhance predictive analytics capabilities is crucial.

  • Are skilled in creating insightful visualizations using tools such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, ggplot, or D3.js. Experience with business intelligence tools like Power BI or Tableau for crafting interactive reports and dashboards is highly desirable.

  • Have a pro-active, enthusiastic and self-driven approach to work. The English language is required.

This assignment is suitable for a master student looking for a graduation project. You should be available for minimum 5 months, for 4 to 5 days per week (2 to 3 days on-site). The start date is as of September 2024.

Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.

Change the world – one nanometer at a time

Become an intern at a Dutch company that’s a global industry leader. You’ll gain valuable experience in a highly innovative environment – one that sparks your imagination and creativity. In addition to a monthly internship allowance of maximum €600 (plus a possible housing and free public transport), you’ll get practical guidance from experts in the field and the chance to work in and experience a dynamic team environment.

ASML – be part of progress

ASML is a high-tech company headquartered in the Netherlands. We manufacture the complex lithography machines that chipmakers use to produce integrated circuits, or computer chips. What we do is at the heart of all the electronic devices that keep us informed, entertained and connected. Every day, you use electronics that simply wouldn’t exist without our machines.

Behind ASML’s innovations are engineers who think ahead. The people who work at our company include some of the most creative minds in physics, electrical engineering, mathematics, chemistry, mechatronics, optics, mechanical engineering, computer science and fields which are not technical oriented.

We believe we can always do better. We believe the winning idea can come from anyone. We love what we do – not because it’s easy, but because it’s hard.

Students – getting ready for real-world R&D

We’re a global team of about 39,000 people of 140 different nationalities and counting. Headquartered in Europe’s top tech hub, the Brainport Eindhoven region in the Netherlands, our operations are spread across Europe, Asia and the US.

In such an environment, your colleagues may be sitting next door, or they could be thousands of kilometers away in a different country – or even working for a different company.

An internship at ASML is the opportunity to get to know not only the world of industrial-strength R&D, but yourself – you’ll discover just what excites you most. Will you design a part of the machine, or make sure it gets built to the tightest possible specifications? Will you write software that drives the system to its best performance, or work side-by-side with the engineers of our customers in a fab, optimizing a system to the requirements of the customer?

How will you be part of progress?
