What We’ll Bring:
The Data Scientist will work on challenging problems extracting actionable information out of the many data sources available to TU, particularly time series data. They will assist in developing accurate and precise models of media and user behavior using various analytical tools, including data curation, data visualization, supervised, and unsupervised machine learning. The data sets under analysis are large, and growing larger still, and so the data scientist must be proficient in the design and development of CPU and memory efficient algorithms.
Application areas include Marketing Analytics and other Business Solutions supported by our or our client’s data.
Data Scientists create prototypes of new algorithms and support Engineering teams in productizing these capabilities. Data Scientists work closely with various teams including data acquisition, data products, data sciences and various business units including marketing, security, and internet of things to ensure implementation of capabilities that enable the organization’s vision. The position will start out as remote. The role will start out as remote pending company’s decision on returning to office.
• You will be a leading key contributor to cross-functional teams that drive new business initiatives and deliver long term, value-added solutions to TransUnion customers. These tasks will include –among others- the development of analytic solutions to complex problems with a high degree of autonomy and limited supervision.
• You will own analytic consulting responsibilities for a variety of clients, working to identify strategies and opportunities to test and adopt TransUnion’s analytic products and services. In this capacity, you will interact directly with TransUnion Sales and business unit partners and provide an analytic perspective and general support as needed.
• You will lead complex custom analytic engagements in support of a variety of business use cases from start to finish: contributing to opportunity management (e.g. writing RFP responses), designing solutions, leading analytic developments, and seeing solutions through to deployment and on-going monitoring.
• You will deliver analytic insights and recommendations in succinct and compelling presentations for internal and external customers representing a wide range of backgrounds and levels.
• You will provide oversight and hands-on support for the development of analytic solutions using languages such as R or Python, formalizing some of these efforts into repeatable process improvements.
• You will contribute to research and innovation initiatives in collaboration with other DSA peers and may lead small analytic research teams or manage research interns on a project basis, as needed.
• You will participate in the mentoring and training of junior colleagues, fostering a high-performance culture and cultivating an environment that promotes excellence and reflects the TransUnion brand.
• You may participate in the interviewing and evaluation of new talent.
What You’ll Bring:
- Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics or a related quantitative field.
- 2+ years of experience working on data-intensive analytics solutions
- Solid understanding of data mining and statistics concepts and familiarity with real-world applications of these techniques.
- Hands on experience in Machine Learning.
- Experience on Geospatial data, time series data and/or panel data is preferred.
- Solid knowledge of SQL in its various forms for traditional databases and distributed computing environments.
- Experience working with commercial and/or open source statistics and data mining packages
- Experience working on large distributed datasets using Hive SQL, Spark, Python is preferred.
- Experience working on cloud services such as AWS and GCP.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong inter-personal collaboration skills. Being able to both work in groups or as an individual contributor
