Job Description
The Homeland Protection Systems Group works with US government agencies to develop, assess, and rapidly transition advanced technologies in support of the Nation’s strategic interests. The group has deployed novel technology solutions to address security challenges in a wide range of mission areas, ranging from protecting the nation’s most important critical assets to enhancing the personal safety of individuals at large public gatherings. We specialize in detailed systems studies and advanced technology development, especially as related to protecting our nation’s air space. Our mission expertise is applied toward developing innovative approaches to complex systems, algorithm and hardware prototyping, and general problem-solving. Our team of scientists, engineers, and technologists develop and employ cutting-edge techniques in data analysis, predictive analytics, and systems engineering to produce solutions for complex problems. Job Description
Our group is seeking highly motivated entry level data scientists who are interested in solving challenging technical problems that make a difference in the real world. As part of an interdisciplinary team, our data scientists support technology development by performing modeling, data analysis, and algorithm development using a variety of data analysis techniques (statistics, outlier detection, clustering, pattern recognition, predictive analytics, etc.). Our analysts use tools such as MATLAB and Python to develop quantitative analysis products, and often assist in developing those products into comprehensive briefs and reports. Upon joining the group, the candidate will work with an experienced team to learn about the homeland protection mission and to develop a career path matching their technical interests.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Physics, Mathematics, Applied Math, Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science or similar field)
- Proven experience with processing data to find patterns and looking for trends/anomalies
- Strong expertise in MATLAB, Python, or similar programming language
- Demonstrated proficiency with data handling: cleaning, preparation, analysis, visualization
- Strong presentation and communication skills. In addition to work experience, relevant classes, field work, lab work, or extracurricular experience will be considered
- Basic statistical knowledge
Desired Requirements:
- Interest in National Security
- Large data set handling a plus
- Experience with source control management tools like GitHub a plus
- Ability to work well in teams
- Willing to acquire new skills
