The energy market place is in an exciting transition, moving away from fossil fuels towards decentral solutions, renewables and energy efficiency. Important drivers are changes in customer expectations and behaviour and rapid technological developments. Our ambition is to take the lead in this transition.

Vattenfall Business NL creates (new) sustainable solutions for business customers with partners inside and outside Vattenfall. The associated responsibility for the result and risk management are an integral part of this. Digital innovation is increasingly playing a role.

The transition strongly increases opportunities and the complexity of the sales demand Forecasting and Pricing function. Growth towards world-class execution will be a key lever for Vattenfall Business NL’s future commercial performance. It requires an analytical approach, in depth knowledge, advanced modelling and effective processes. We take an integrated approach, translating the volatility of the wholesale market and risks into attractive customer propositions, whilst managing related values and risks. Team members within Customer Portfolio Management are responsible for modelling and executing demand forecasting, pricing and managing the supply risks of Vattenfall’s Business customer portfolio in The Netherlands.
 

Your tasks and responsibilities

As a data scientist your prime focus will be on forecasting energy demand of the business customers portfolio, used for pricing and sourcing of the business customer portfolio. Your output will directly impact business decisions and profitability of Vattenfall Business NL, and is critical for the future success of the business sales organisation.

You will serve as the primary point of contact for all stakeholders related to the forecasting models and their application. This role demands an in-depth understanding of forecasting methodologies, as well as the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

 

  • Perform analysis on customer data sets to extract meaningful insights, which will help us make strategic long term decisions.
  • Develop customer demand forecasting (Machine Learning) models based on customer behaviour in Python.
  • Maintain, calibrate and execute daily forecasting tools for Vattenfall’s Business NL portfolio.
  • Initiate and support initiatives to increase the level of automation, flexibility and intelligence in required processes.
  • Support portfolio managers and other stakeholders with data driven (ad hoc) analyses to support decision making.
  • Collaborate with data scientists on other Vattenfall data science projects.
  • Build up thorough knowledge of (developments in) the wholesale energy markets, in value and risk models, and in changes to the customer behaviour in energy demand.

Develop scenarios to balance the value and risks of our customers with those of Vattenfall and find new value propositions for customers, based on sourcing – risk – pricing opportunities.

Qualifications

Your Profile

You possess a combination of strong analytical skills, a commercial ambition and drive to run and improve a critical part of our core business. You can think and act on strategic and process level to challenge and improve current business operations. You demonstrate competence in effective collaboration and are open for new perspectives to drive successful outcomes.

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Econometrics, Financial Economics, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimal 3 years of experience in performing advanced data analytics on large datasets with the use of tools such as Pandas, Spark and SQL.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Acquired in-depth knowledge of statistics, and analytical and modelling techniques.
  • You have experience in developing forecasting models and you know your way around timeseries.
  • Experience in in the field of demand forecasting within a retail, sales business or consultancy in a competitive environment is considered as an advantage.
  • Professional working proficiency in both Dutch and English. .

Additional Information

Our offer 
The height of your salary is based on your education and relevant work experience. The salary for this position ranges from €4000 to €6000. In addition to your salary, we offer a comprehensive secondary benefits package, the most important components of which are:

  • End of year bonus of 4.5% of your annual salary and a profit sharing of up to 3.5% of your annual salary based on the results of Vattenfall Netherlands.
  • NS Business card for commuting or a travel allowance of €0.23 per km up to a maximum of 50 km one way.
  • 25 vacation days, 2.5 vitality days, and for a 40-hour contract: 13 ADV (reduction of working hours) days.
  • Choice budget, which allows you to purchase or sell extra vacation days, buy a e-bicycle, or simply receive it as addition pay.
  • Education budget, because we believe it is important that you can continue to develop yourself.
