The Tripadvisor Data Science Team is looking for an exceptional experienced Data Scientist to improve, design and implement data science systems to solve concrete business problems, notably in the performance marketing space. Our broader team is focused on recommendation, personalization, explanation, and enhanced user interaction across multiple business verticals including Tripadvisor Experiences, Accommodations, and Restaurants. As a Data Scientist working in this space, you will have the opportunity to apply your modeling and engineering skills to a number of different areas, notably on bidding algorithms, attribution or test measurement. As a group, we want to build scalable and automated solutions and make sure that our systems overall (notably around bidding) are working well, not interfering with each other, not degrading over time, and not creating undesired dynamics.

What you’ll do:

  • Focus primarily on our traffic acquisition and attribution systems and causal inference projects

  • Build data science solutions to solve quickly concrete business challenges (a few weeks long projects)

  • Ensure our data science models are leading to having marketing channels operate efficiently to meet business objectives on a continuous basis

  • Provide stewardship and act as team expert for several of the team’s most important models, pipelines and areas of expertise.

  • Interact with many teams to support stakeholders’ projects but also owning your own initiatives

  • Lead data science and machine learning projects from concept to implementation: data exploration, modeling, productizing & coordinate work for deployment and integration

  • Lead the achievement of one or more of the team’s most important objectives

  • Improve the team’s models and processes

  • Strong communication skills: Form strong relationships with partners across the business to get things done

  • Work with other teams to review project specifications and schedule project work

  • Work with other teams to develop new, or enhance existing, products and opportunities

 

What we’re looking for:

  • To have concrete and high impact on the business and to be involved in the operational effectiveness of our systems (ok to balance time between long-term projects and shorter initiatives)

  • Show excellent problem-solving and analytical skills as well as creative and efficient in the modeling approach

  • Organized and reliable team player

  • Able to communicate effectively with audiences of various background, level and function

 

Skills & Experience:

  • PhD or Masters in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related field preferred

  • Background in machine learning and statistics

  • Solid foundation on data structures and algorithms

  • Proficiency in Python for numerical/statistical programming (our group relies heavily on Pandas/Numpy/Scikit-learn/PyTorch)

  • Ability to write complex SQL queries

  • Experience with big data technologies, such as Snowflake and Spark

  • Knowledge of AB test design and analysis

  • Track record of leading the deployment and maintenance of models

  • At least 1 year of relevant, practical experience (2 preferred).
