OVERVIEW:

The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology provides information technology support to over 13,000 employees.  MaineIT oversees large-scale enterprise applications that support the critical and diverse business needs of the State of Maine and its agencies. This position will be part of our MaineDOT apps team supporting all the applications used by the Maine Department of Transportation.

BRIEFLY ABOUT THE JOB:     

This advanced technical and analytical position involves designing, developing, and supporting highly complex databases, data analysis, data modeling, and data integrations, supporting MaineDOT’s Enterprise Data Warehouse and other MaineDOT systems.   Candidates are expected to have strong problem-solving and organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, multitasking ability, able to lead an IT team and interact effectively with our business partners.

Hybrid Work Opportunity – This position is a hybrid remote/onsite position. The onsite location is in Augusta, Maine and the remote location must be within the state of Maine.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Your job as a Data Architect will have responsibility for supporting MaineDOT’s Enterprise Data Warehouse solution and a Data Integration strategy for all MaineDOT systems.  Other duties will include:

  • Translating business requirements into databases, data warehouses, and data streams.
  • Creating procedures to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
  • Analyzing, planning, and defining data architecture framework, including security, reference data, metadata, and master data.
  • Creating and implementing data management processes and procedures.
  • Collaborating with other teams within the organization to devise and implement data strategies, build models, and assess shareholder needs and goals.
  • Researching data acquisition opportunities.
  • Developing application programming interfaces (APIs) to retrieve data.

Work will involve frequent communications with our MaineDOT Business Partners, MaineDOT AppDev peers, Software Vendors, and other MaineIT Technical Staff.  

Preference will be given to candidates who display a high-level skill set in the following areas:

  • Data Analysis  
  • Data Modeling and Design
  • Data Migration Tools Knowledge
  • Data Integration / API Development
  • Database development standards
  • Oracle Analytics Cloud
  • Strong oral and written communications
  • Strong desire to provide great Customer Service
  • Ability to define and resolve complex technical problems independently and in a team environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible and increasingly complex work experience in computer programming, analysis, and design with at least four (4) years of database analysis and design experience. A Masters Degree in Computer Science may substitute for one (1) year of the general computer programming/analysis/design experience.
