JOB SUMMARY: Van Buren County is seeking an AI Solutions Specialist to join our team. This exciting role focuses on developing and deploying custom AI-based digital assistants and automation tools to support our county staff and department heads. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in generative AI and natural language processing, with an emphasis on creating user-centric solutions that enhance operational efficiency. Automation and/or GIS experience is also desirable.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Design and develop custom AI-driven tools as digital assistants and agents tailored to the needs of individual users and departments.
- Collaborate with department heads and staff to understand their needs and integrate AI and automation tools into their workflows.
- Manage the lifecycle of AI and automation projects, including planning, development, implementation, and training.
- Ensure that all AI applications adhere to data privacy and security standards.
- Create user-friendly interfaces and documentation to facilitate the adoption and effective use of AI tools.
- Provide ongoing support and updates to AI systems based on user feedback and evolving requirements.
- Leverage GIS data and tools in the development of AI applications to provide geospatial insights where beneficial.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Technology, Geographic Information Systems or a related field.
- Experience with natural language processing and generative AI models, specifically LLMs or similar technologies.
- Proficient in Python and familiar with NLP libraries (e.g., Hugging Face’s Transformers).
- Strong project management skills and ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in user interface design and user experience optimization.
- Knowledge of tools such as Azure, PowerAutomate, JotForm, or other tools used to streamline and automate workflows.
- Some experience using Data Analytics tools like PowerBI, Tableau, or similar would be a bonus.
- Basic understanding of GIS technologies (QGIS, ArcGIS, etc) is beneficial but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to keep pace with new developments in AI and evolve your role accordingly is a must.

WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position works in a typical office environment using standard office equipment such as telephone, computer, copier, etc. No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions (such as in a typical office).
