Job Description

Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking an Electrochemical Data Scientist to join our talented team of scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next‐generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate will have a strong background in data science approaches, and a good understanding of statistical methods. This role will primarily involve aggregating, transforming, managing, building models, and reporting around a vast amount of current and historical data.

Job Duties:

  • Compile, clean, and structure vast amounts of current and historical data. Work closely within the cell technologies organization to understand specific data requirements and ensure data quality.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and IT to improve current data storage systems and design robust and efficient structures for the future.
  • Ensure the optimized retrieval of processed data for various analytical and computational tasks. Compile all quality data into a centralized database (and develop standards around future data recording) to identify correlations between build conditions and performance.
  • Develop regression models establishing correlations between incoming materials properties, cell manufacturing conditions, battery beginning of life data and end of life observables. [Note: With the objective being to significantly accelerate our feedback loop.]
  • Work with the computational teams to validate processed data and predictive models.
  • Present findings and progress reports to internal stakeholders and external customers.

Required Skills/Attributes:

  • Significant data science coursework/degree with proficiency in Python.
  • Proficient in data aggregation, cleaning, transformation, and management techniques.
  • Ability to design, implement, and manage data storage solutions that provide coworkers with easy access.
  • Strong analytical and statistical problem-solving skills, with specific experience in designing predictive models.
  • Solid understanding of electrochemistry, with significant experience in the interpretation and fitting of electrochemical testing and impedance spectroscopy data strongly preferred.
  • Rapid learner and self-motivated who thrives in a collaborative start-up environment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computational Chemistry, Electrochemistry, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a data science role, with a preference for those who have worked with electrochemical data.
  • Demonstrated experience (e.g. publications) in data cleaning and visualizations of large datasets.
  • Proficiency with Python and common data science libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and Pytorch.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and building data storage solutions. The ideal candidate has a strong knowledge of commercial data storage solutions (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP), locally implementable solutions (e.g. MongoDB, Cassandra, Hadoop, Spark) and understands their use cases.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of time in front of a computer.
  • Some physical data retrieval (i.e. from non-networked computers located within the Solid Power buildings).

Salary Range: $110,000 – $135,000 annually

Application Deadline: 04/30/2024

Benefits: Solid Power offers a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical/dental/vision insurance, employer paid Life/AD&D/STD/LTD insurance, 401k with company match, paid holidays, PTO, up to six (6) weeks paid FMLA leave, cell phone reimbursement and eligibility to participate in our bonus and equity plans.
