Role overview

The Enterprise Data Architect will be responsible for architecting and delivering our next generation data and site instrumentation platforms allowing us to build data driven products and solutions across our organization and its subsidiaries. They will provide thought leadership across with their background in data architecture and governance. 

Our Data teams solve various unique challenges, from designing complex data structures and algorithms to machine learning and data analytics. We deploy code daily and use data to power our product and drive our decisions while delivering software and analytics to consumers and dealers worldwide. With CarGurus being the most visited automotive shopping site in the US,  our data provides us with many unique opportunities to deliver consumer and dealer insights.

The Enterprise Data Architect will collaborate with both data-producing and data-consuming teams, bridging the gap between various stakeholders across the spectrum. They will work with our technical leadership, Security, Product engineering, and Data analysts across product, revenue, and sales to ensure we are building data driven products driving value across our marketplace and transactions businesses. 

This is a high-visibility role that reports directly to the VP of Engineering.

What you’ll do 

  • Architect and design processes, systems, tools, and capabilities required to produce and maintain our core data assets in a highly iterative environment
  • Collaborate with functional and business stakeholders, providing guidance on overall system design and architecture and ensuring that business areas treat their data as a first-class citizen in their systems and applications
  • Oversee the architecture of enterprise and client-facing data management strategies to collect, store, and increase the usability and quality of enterprise and client data from multiple diverse sources.
  • Oversee the architecture of site instrumentation and tracking platforms and tools and ensure they are scalable, reliable, and secure.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in the data space and leverage that knowledge to identify new opportunities and best practices to improve the company’s data capabilities. 
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement data governance frameworks, including data ownership, classification, and lineage.
  • Collaborate with product management teams to understand business requirements and ensure that product development aligns with data architecture principles in order to expand our capabilities of offering data as a product. 
  • Communicate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders and be a trusted advisor on data-related matters.

What you’ll bring

  • 10+ years of experience working with data systems and 5+ years of experience as an architect.
  • A deep understanding and passion for solving complex system and data challenges and a desire to thrive in a constantly innovating, changing, and collaborative environment
  • Comprehensive understanding of site instrumentation, user journey tracking, site-tracking, and clickstream logging systems, as well as experience building and managing large-scale tracking platforms
  • Demonstrated experience architecting large scalable systems, best practices, and standards for data management, governance, and security across our company and its subsidiaries, with a strong understanding of industry standards and regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of data infrastructure, systems, and tools (such as Snowflake, snowplow, DBT, Fivetran, and Looker), as well as experience architecting and designing large-scale data platforms
  • Experience architecting end-to-end data solutions including data collection and storage, data modeling, and data consumption
  • Demonstrable experience leading/participating in data architecture strategy and roadmap engagements.
  • Strong knowledge of Cloud solutions, with a specific focus on AWS.
  • Demonstrated experience in Data DevOps engineering using Continuous Integration/ Delivery tools.
