Job Description

 We are seeking a highly motivated professional to join our Equities Execution Research team, focusing on the Asia Equities markets. This team is an integral part of the Equities 1D / Electronic Trading strats, responsible for execution research, trading signal development, market microstructure studies, transaction cost modeling (TCM), post-trade execution quality analysis, and other quantitative investigations. The role emphasizes delivery, a rigorous foundation, and achieving commercial results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Trading Algorithm Development: Enhance and refine trading algorithm logic to improve execution performance.
  • Alpha Signal Research: Conduct research and development into alpha signals to identify profitable trading opportunities.
  • Transaction Cost Modeling: Fit, validate, and continuously improve trading cost models to optimize execution strategies.
  • Analytics Generation: Produce pre- and post-trade analytics and other metrics to quantify and understand business aspects.
  • Exploratory Analysis: Perform exploratory analyses, hypothesis testing, author research content, and provide consultation to traders and clients.
  • Workflow Optimization: Identify and solve workflow inefficiencies to help the execution services desk scale effectively.
  • Performance Improvement: Implement improvements that directly enhance execution performance and reduce innovation costs.
  • Brand Equity Building: Contribute to building the execution services brand and increasing client mind share.

Skills and Experience:

  • Judgment and Work Ethic: Demonstrate sound judgment, responsibility, and a solid work ethic.
  • Educational Background: Hold a strong background in math, science, engineering, or econometrics.
  • Quantitative and Problem-Solving Skills: Possess strong quantitative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to formulate hypotheses, test them, and distill them into practical models for trading algorithms, pre/post-trade analysis, market-microstructure research, and visualization.
  • Probability and Statistics: Have a strong foundation in probability and statistics.
  • Programming Skills: Proficient in modern programming languages such as Java (preferred), Python (preferred), q (preferred), C++, and C.
  • Communication Skills: Effectively communicate and present results, highlighting their broader commercial and strategic impact.
  • Data and Systems Handling: Capable of working with significant volumes of data and systems.
  • Collaborative Environment: Ability to work in a collaborative and time-sensitive environment.
  • Algorithms and Data Structures: Clear understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • Core Programming Concepts: Familiarity with core programming concepts and techniques, including concurrency and memory management.
  • SDLC Tools: Comfortable with standard Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) tools, such as version control systems and diff-ing tools.
  • SQL & REST API: Knowledge of SQL and REST API queries, with KDB+ being a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degrees: Master’s or PhD degree in Statistics, Quantitative Finance, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Financial Markets Knowledge: Familiarity with financial markets and market microstructure.
  • Linux/UNIX Development: Experience developing in a Linux or UNIX environment.
  • Middleware Technologies: Understanding of middleware technologies, particularly Kafka.
