Interim Data Analyst

You’ll be joining us at an exciting time – we’ve recently launched our physician marketplace product in the USA to great success, have raised over $60m in VC funding and are on track to grow over 300% in 2024.
WHAT YOU WILL BE GETTING INVOLVED IN
Our vision for Data is to enable everyone in the company to be owners of performance and scientific in their approach to learning from data and for data directly to be used to enhance our product experience.
We are building out our capabilities across the Data team to enable this evolution in our thinking and approach to data, and are seeking an experience contractor who will aide as we establish our standards for a strong foundation in our observability of business performance reporting. Our goals are to validate the ability to scale our business in new markets, the efficiency of our internal product technology and to ensure we maintain our current levels of data enablement in the business.
You will be working within in an early-stage analytics environment with limited people, process, or technology in-place. We will be working on establishing these pillars concurrently whilst you are with us, and your expert views will be of help with shaping this foundation.
You will be reporting into the Chief Operations Officer (with support from the interim Head of Data). As noted, we don’t have any data models built in Snowflake yet, so expect to have to get your hands dirty and be heavily involved in Google Sheets/Excel and SQL from the raw data layer.
THE TOP THINGS WE WANT YOU TO ACHIEVE IN YOUR TIME WITH US ARE
- Build reporting and analytics products for at least the 10 most critical business performance reporting needs: Working across the company from Engineering/Product to Sales, Operations, and Finance to build high data quality consistent reports/analytical products that enable each team to execute with confidence and with limited support of a data professional. Success will be measured by a reduction in the time of people needing to manually post-process the data and a reduction in amount of support requests related to these datasets.
- Synthesis of ad hoc requests and additionally capture and scope new data needs before addressing them: Reduce ad hoc requests over time through addressing core needs and automation. Creating tickets for work, clarifying the need, adding to existing workflow documents and developing or iterating on the reports to satisfy the needs. Success will be measured by the low volume of ad hoc needs and the number of executional tasks that can be performed by people company wide without your direct support.
- Continuously surface analytical barriers and help us evolve to overcome them. Success will be measured by the absence of recurring themes for improvement in Company-wide retros, surveys, and user interviews.
- Coach and mentor other analysts and the broader business on data practices. Success will be measured by both the observable growth in the team, wider company, and the direct feedback you get from them about the positive impact you’re having on their practices.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TABLE:
- SQL: Extremely high level of SQL wizardry (e.g. complex joins, complex calculations using CTEs, deduplication, cleansing data etc), capable of developing optimised queries from complex schemas and variable quality data sources. Comfortable producing views and materialised tables in various SQL-based environments (e.g. analytical environments such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and directly querying operational data stores such as Postgres and working with complex Google Sheets/Excel data sources**.**
- Scoping information needs: Able to autonomously work across with stakeholders to understand their workflow specific information needs and convert them into data and reporting specifications.
- Analytical Solution Design: Able to design interactive reports that facilitate scoped reports and analytics products e.g. by knowing when to use a filter vs an interaction. Ensure consistency in the data definitions and a overall high data quality (as much as you can based on the source data and the current operating environment).
- BI Tooling: Experience working in a variety of BI environments (e.g. Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Zoho Analytics). Tableau or Zoho Analytics would be desirable.
- Organisational skills: Ability to self organise around delivering to pre specified objectives and major milestones (e.g. by doing own story and task-level sprint planning)
