About PlugShare: Based in Los Angeles, CA, PlugShare is home to the world’s largest community of EV drivers and maintains the most comprehensive census of EV charging infrastructure in the world. PlugShare enables drivers to easily locate and navigate to chargers, offering the ability to filter results by network, charging speed, or connector type (e.g., CCS, CHAdeMO, NACS/Tesla). PlugShare is available on the web and for download in 173 countries on iOS and Android, including in-dash for Android Automotive OS, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. Besides aggregating charging location data, PlugShare also allows users to leave reviews and describe their experience at charging locations. Intern Position Summary: We seek a data science or computer science intern who has taken courses in artificial intelligence or machine learning to join our team for the summer. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing algorithms to aggregate and extract driver sentiment for location check-in/reviews by identifying and categorizing key data from the free-form text entry in reviews and mapping it to structured data that can be used in our apps, web, and data products. Reporting to PlugShare’s Director of Software Engineering, you will work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with dedicated engineers, designers, and product managers. We value innovation, attention to detail, user advocacy, and the ability to take ownership of tasks while contributing to the larger team effort. This internship will be 10-weeks, 40-hours per week. Responsibilities:
- Work with PlugShare engineering team to understand the data set
- Design and develop a system for extracting free-form text data into structured data models
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product owners, engineers, data integrity team and business teams to deliver solutions
- Take ownership of assigned tasks by ensuring timely delivery
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following industry best practices
- Participate in code reviews and technical planning sessions
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate data science or computer science program
- Interest in software engineering
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Python
- Agile thinker and capable of working effectively as part of a team
- Motivated to learn new technologies and frameworks, especially those related to AI/ML
The hourly rate for this position is $22.00 USD.
