This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Air Consultant in our Florida (preferably Gainesville) offices to support our air and environmental consulting practices in the United States.  Atlanta, GA, Nashville, TN, and Raleigh, NC locations will also be considered. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage air quality projects including client communication, budgets, scope and billing
  • Provide senior review and technical guidance related to air permitting, air emissions estimation, dispersion modeling, and regulatory interpretation
  • Mentor and train junior staff members on air quality regulations, modeling techniques, air permitting, and emissions calculations
  • Participate in compliance audits and meetings with regulatory agencies
  • Prepare and review technical reports
  • Lead complex air consulting proposal efforts
  • Provide guidance in regional, national, and international air quality program development

Your Impact

  • Provide guidance for air quality permits for numerous industries including oil and gas, power, mining, landfills, and manufacturing
  • Calculate emissions including criteria pollutants, toxic compounds and Greenhouse Gases for use in permitting and dispersion modeling
  • Candidate must also have knowledge of air quality permitting requirements, New Source Review regulations, New Source Performance Standards, Prevention of Significant Deterioration, Title V permitting, and Federal MACT standards
  • Candidate must also have knowledge of air quality regulations and air modeling procedures based on USEPA guidelines
  • Prepare air quality sections of environmental impact documents including impact assessments and conformity determinations
  • Ability to lead meetings with regulatory agencies
  • Ability to lead complex air consulting proposal efforts
  • Ability to review technical reports  
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, models, cross-sections, and other illustrations for air quality permit applications as required
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Develop action plans for mid to larger-scale air quality projects and programs.
  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing mid-level projects including project budgets, tracking hours and expenses, and task completion.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
  • Remain current in latest environmental engineering techniques.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 7+ years of relevant post education experience in environmental engineering. 
  • Professional Engineer license required.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state air quality regulations, including PSD, NSR, and Title V
  • Proficiency in air dispersion modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, CALPUFF) and emissions calculations tools 
  • Proficient with engineering principles, practices, and methods and their application to environmental and project work-related issues. 
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with air dispersion modeling software.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
