Job Title – Lead Consultant – Enterprise Data  Architect

Our Enterprise Architecture Team is accountable for enterprise strategy and standards in Data. The organization works closely with data delivery teams across Business Technology Group (BTG – Business Unit) IT teams and data governance teams SET Area (Line of Business) Data Offices (SEDO), supporting the build of the AstraZeneca data products including Data Mesh, analytical solutions, and with a view to enterprise information architectures and thinking. 

Our global Enterprise Architecture (GEA) Practice works with the EDO, specializing in Enterprise Architecture, Data Architecture, Data Modelling and Data Analysis. We design the key aspects of the data world for AstraZeneca across our global customer businesses, offering critical services focused upon the ingestion, extraction, processing, transformation, transport, storage and representation of knowledge, analysis and modelling of our essential data and facts. We use leading thinking, processes, and methods to achieve enduring outcomes for projects and business-as-usual working, and lead on enterprise-level, cross organizational information architecture, for example around the definition and delivery of Data Products and alignment with Data Mesh and Data Platforms and FAIR Data thinking across our businesses. 

The GEA practice is creating an exciting new role of Data Enterprise Architect – Master and Reference Data Management, that sits within GEA IT function of GEA. The role will focus on defining or supporting the definition and governance of enterprise Master and Reference Data Management architectures, strategies, designs, models and consolidating thinking and artefacts across one or more business units, one or more projects/programmes, to drive out enterprise thinking and delivery across AstraZeneca IT function. The role will also support the definition of enterprise Data Strategies which may include information and data, regulatory or technical governances in a Data Mesh architecture, data innovation, enterprise architectures, governance policies standards and procedures. 

 

Typical Accountabilities 

  • Responsible for undertaking and delivering coherent strategic and tactical architectural thinking data architectures, data strategies, and data governances. 

  • Create an inventory of the data necessary to build and implement a data architecture. 

  • Envision data pipelines and how data will flow through the AZ enterprise landscape. 

  • Responsible for architecture and technology evangelization, architecture roadmap, and alignment. 

  • Maintain a repository of all data architecture procedures and artifacts. 

  • Evaluate current data management technologies and what additional tools are needed. 

  • Determine upgrades and improvements to current data architectures. 

  • Design, document, build and implement database architectures and applications. 

  • Build data models for database structures, analytics, and AI applications. 

  • Develop and enforce database development standards. 

  • Integrate new systems and functions like security, performance, scalability, reliability, and data recovery. 

  • Research new opportunities and create methods to acquire data. 

  • Gain approval from the various stake holder, business unit key people across AZ. 

  • Develop measures that ensure data accuracy, integrity, and accessibility. 

  • Continually monitor, refine, and report data management system performance. 

  • Drive across teams, time zones and articulate data architecture, data strategy and data visions. 

  Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

Essential 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent number of years of experience in a Computer Science or Data Management related field. 

  • Experience in framing and delivering enterprise data architecture/master and reference data management architectural thinking, and its practical application. 

  • Experience in the use of conceptual and logical data modelling technologies. 

  • Experience in defining and working with Enterprise and data regulatory governances. 

  • The role holder will possess a blend of data architecture /data design, analysis, and engineering skills. 

  • Experience in known industry IT architectural patterns and IT architecture ways of working/methodologies. 

  • Understands Data Platforms concepts and cloud-based containerization strategies for hybrid cloud environments. 

  • Understanding the appropriate data structure and technology based on business use case and completely familiar with data lifecycles. 

  • Data visualization, data migration and data modelling. 

  • Relational database management systems 

  • DBMS software, including SQL Server   

  • Database and cloud computing design, architectures, and data lakes. 

  • Snowflake, Hadoop technologies like Pig, Hive and MapReduce. 

  • Information management and data processing on multiple platforms.  

  • Agile methodologies and enterprise resource planning implementation. 

  • Data mining and modelling tools.  

Desirable 

  • Experience in a data architect role with practical examples of designing and providing data engineering/architectural blueprints that have been implemented. 

  • Experience in Agile data definition scrums. 

  • Experience in the use of tooling, e.g. metadata cataloguing tools, data modelling tools, EA tools. 

  • Understanding of, or familiarity with, Data Mesh approaches (as distinct from Data Fabric or Data Platform). 

  • Extremely experience with Snowflake Platform  

  • Programming languages, including Java, Python and C/C++, as well as unified modelling language. 

  • Application server software as well as backup and archival software.  

  • Systems development lifecycle and project management. 

  • Data management and reporting technologies, predictive analytics, data visualization and unstructured data. 

  • Applied mathematics and statistics.
