Job Description

The Opportunity

Manulife’s Canadian Division Data Team is seeking a Data Architect reporting into the Leader of Data Architecture. As Data Architect you will (1) champion and support strategic &/or global data initiatives that strengthens Manulife’s global data and advanced analytic capabilities, (2) foster cross-segment collaboration and communication helping build an agile data insight driven culture, and (3) lead and nurture open data design, patterns and architecture establishing conditions for successful technical and analytic innovation.

Responsibilities

  •  Lead different data initiatives from architecture perspective, provide direction to multiple scrum teams on diff data initiatives and align with enterprise data strategy.
  • Build short-term tactical solutions to achieve long-term objectives and an overall data management roadmap.
  • Assess and determine governance, stewardship, and frameworks for managing data across the enterprise.
  • Ensure that data strategies and architectures are in regulatory compliance. Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones are needed.
  • Select and implement the appropriate tools, software, applications, and systems to support data technology goals.
  • Collaborate with project leads and consultants and business unit leaders for all projects involving enterprise data and analytics.

What we are looking for

  • Expert in Data Architecture, Data Strategy and Roadmap for large and complex organization and systems and implemented large scale end-to-end Data Management & Analytics solutions
  • Expert in Data Quality, Data Profiling, Data Governance, Data Security, Metadata Management, MDM, Martech, Data Lake, Data Mesh strategy, Lakehouse architecture with Delta Lake on ADLS, Data Archival and Data Migration strategies using appropriate tools
  • Expert in building and operationalizing BigData platforms in cloud using one of the public clouds, preferably MS Azure technology stack (Azure Synapse, Databricks & Unity Catalog, Azure Data Factory, Azure Purview, Azure OpenAI), Informatica MDM (nice to have), Adobe Experience Platform (nice to have)
  • Expert in automating data pipelines in a Big Data ecosystem, DevOps and CICD.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) tools (e.g. Azure Data Factory) and BI tools and reporting software (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
  • Hands-on experience with analytical tools, languages, or libraries (e.g. Python, Spark etc)

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of NoSQL platforms
  • Experience in building GenAI usage patterns
  • Experience in Canary deployments, 0-downtime, 0-dataloss, active-active DR
  • Exposure to and an understanding of Agile scrum methodologies and experience of working in an Agile team
  • Exposure to and basic understanding of collaboration tools like Teams, and JIRA

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$107,730.00 CAD – $200,070.00 CAD
