Salary: Up to £60,000 depending on experience + up to 20% annual bonus + benefits

The Role

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in leading and shaping our data engineering team. You have the technical expertise and experience in data engineering and are passionate about mentoring and developing junior engineers. You are proactive, hands-on and excel at building scalable data pipelines and systems.

Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will help define data strategy, design and build data models, and ensure the reliability and performance of our data infrastructure. You are a problem solver and have a keen eye for identifying and resolving data quality issues.

We work in multi-disciplinary teams and strong communication and teamwork is essential.

Key Responsibilities 

From time to time the key responsibilities may change or be adapted to the needs of the business, however the below gives an overview of the key areas of focus

Day to Day

  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance and support
  • Design and build scalable data pipelines and systems
  • Define data strategy and work with cross-functional teams to implement best practices
  • Optimise and monitor data infrastructure for reliability and performance
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions

Requirements

Essential:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java or Scala
  • Deep understanding of data modelling and database design
  • Expertise in building and optimising data pipelines and ETL processes
  • Good verbal, written and communication skills

Desirable: 

  • Experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience with data warehousing and building data lakes
