Lead Data Engineer

This team comprises bioinformaticians, programmers, data scientists & AI/ML application scientists and work with various scientific groups as collaborators, or as the computational arm of pharmaceutical clinical and research groups within Regeneron (US). The team collaborates with scientists from genomic, personalized medicine, protein expression, antibody discovery, etc. that are spread across various therapeutic areas and part of the drug discovery/ development lifecycle.

In this role typical day might include performing the following:

• Understand the scientific context of various biological, clinical and image datasets in drug discovery research.

•  Integrate data from bioinformatics multiomic experiments, clinical studies along with other types of data like imaging to develop embeddings aligned with the problem at hand.

• Design AI models specific to hypotheses generated by science groups or within the internal team.

• Participate in discussions with scientists and engineering teams towards understanding the objectives and work, along with project leads.

• Communicate any roadblocks and progress of the project clearly and consistently with all stakeholders.

•  Enforce to agile project management principles.

This job might be for you if you:

• PhD in computational life sciences or related from an accredited/ ranked university • Experience in working on a cloud environment.

• Candidate with a proven foundation in bioinformatics & genomics, in addition to the application of AI to scientific domains, especially focused on data relevant to modern pharmaceutical research like multiomics and clinical data.

• Experience with AI models and analysis with pharmaceutical research data like genomic/other related high throughput next generation sequencing datasets and biomedical imaging

• Proficiency with commonly used programming language in bioinformatics – (Python, R, etc.)

• Proficiency with at least one AI library; should be able to demonstrate this through interactions, or preferably, sharing repositories that the person maintains (GitHub, Bitbucket, etc.)

• Prior experience in the area of applied AI in the area of pharmaceutical research in an industry environment or, if it is academic research, this has to be shown by the candidate’s first/ significant author publications in an international journal with a reasonable Impact Factor.

• Good communication and willingness to collaborate with a scientifically team with multifaceted strengths.

• Demonstrates experience in building enterprise-wide deployments of bioinformatics/ AI solutions as a contributor and part of a larger collaborative team.

• Proven ability to work with data lakes towards integrating multi-modal data.

• Strong foundation in quantitative analysis

• People with expertise across multiple Responsibilities will be favoured, however, it is not vital to have expertise on all responsibilities/ skills
