The People Data Warehouse (PDW) team is a young team responsible for providing the analytics data platform for Grab’s internal tools. We make an impact by providing a data foundation to improve Grabber and organizational decision making. Our team is made up of a group of humble individuals who are in pursuit of engineering excellence and continuous self improvement with a strong focus on impact creation through agile collaboration with our stakeholders. Get to know the Role

We are on the lookout for an experienced Lead Data Engineer to spearhead our data warehouse team, currently utilizing a robust stack comprising Redshift, Airflow, and Fargate. As we embark on an ambitious journey to expand our capabilities to include an API and web application platform leveraging our Redshift data to deliver data driven auto adaptive processes, we need a lead engineer to guide the team through this transformative phase.

You will report into the Engineering Manager and be based onsite in Malaysia. As our Lead Data Engineer, you will not only maintain the current data warehousing platform but also extend its capabilities to seamlessly integrate with our upcoming API and web application platform endeavors. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that our data remains accessible, reliable, and actionable across the organization.

The Critical Tasks You will Perform

You will:

  • Maintain and Extend the Data Platform: Ensure optimal performance, security, and compliance with privacy laws.
  • Design and Architect New Solutions: Propose and implement architectures to expand platform capabilities.
  • Follow Software Engineering Best Practices: Ensure the long-term maintainability of systems and guide other engineers to do the same.
  • Mentor Junior Engineers: Provide guidance and support to help them grow professionally.
  • Integrate Data Platform with New Initiatives: Work on the integration of API and web application platforms using Redshift data.

Qualifications

What Skills You will Need

  • Redshift & Airflow: At least 3 years of hands-on experience with these tools.
  • Python & SQL: Expert-level knowledge; minimum of 5 years of coding experience.
  • DevOps Practices: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, and container technologies.
  • Cyber Security & Data Privacy: Knowledge in implementing security principles and privacy techniques.
  • Data Engineering Experience: Minimum of 7 years in data engineering or related roles.
