Job Description

The Sr. Data Scientist will lead the data science function in the Devices Software Building Block team. He/She will work with our engineering, product, sales, leadership, and marketing teams in developing valuable insights by analyzing large volumes of data obtained from Motorola Solutions (MSI)  IoT devices.  These insights will be used by MSI customers to better manage their fleet of IoT Devices and by MSI internal teams to understand our customer’s needs to provide better products and services.  

Responsibilities 

  • Use the Data Science Life Cycle to design and develop algorithms, methods, processes, and systems to generate actionable and value-added insights from unstructured, diverse “big data” sources. 

  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of data sources, data-gathering techniques, and analytic algorithms.

  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.

  • Interacts with product and service teams to identify customer needs, questions, and issues for data analysis and experiments. Then develop custom data models and algorithms to address these needs and issues.

  • Mine and analyze data from diverse databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques, and business strategies.

  • Develop the technical skills of junior team members by providing hands-on reviews and mentorship.

  • Work directly with the data engineering team to design, implement, and validate data pipelines and results.

Preferred Qualification :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in data science, computer science, data engineering, or related technical, math, or scientific field.

  • 6+ years of experience in data science, manipulating data sets, and building statistical models.

  • 6+ Years of experience using statistical computer languages (Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.

  • Machine Learning Experience: ML algorithms, experience with training models, hyperparameter tuning, and distributed model training.

  • Experience deploying traditional ML and deep learning models (clustering, decision trees, neural networks) and their validation.

  • Working knowledge of data mining principles: predictive analytics, mapping, and collecting data from multiple cloud-based and local data sources.

  • Experience and knowledge of statistical modeling techniques: GLM multiple regression, logistic regression, linear regression, variable selection, and time-series analysis.

  • Data Visualization experience using Tableau / Power BI or other interactive data visualization software products.

  • Applies tools to efficiently clean and prepare massive volumes of unstructured data for analysis.

  • Experience with Apache Spark technologies.

  • Basic working knowledge of Azure cloud computing (Kubernetes, pipelines..)

  • Experience/knowledge base in Agile process using JIRA is a plus.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and therefore requires successfully passing a fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in data science, computer science, data engineering, or related technical, math, or scientific field

  • 6+ years of experience in data science, manipulating data sets, and building statistical models

  • 6+ Years of experience using statistical computer languages (Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer
