Senior Research Scientist

Galter Health Sciences Library & Learning Center seeks an innovative and energetic professional to provide vision and leadership to advance Galter Library’s research and knowledge management portfolio across highly interdisciplinary priority areas such as open science, data science and artificial intelligence, digital infrastructures and repository systems, evaluation and continuous improvement, and mobilization of computable biomedical knowledge. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative and productive team where they will experience and contribute to a respectful and inclusive working environment. They will apply their expertise to strategic activities on the local, national, and international levels that build community and nurture a collaborative technical environment through data and informatics-oriented practices and projects. They will lead and contribute to collaborative development and execution of activities and outputs such as working group meetings, program reports, grant proposals, and manuscripts. and present their work at conferences and collaborative meetings. This position will participate in secondary assignments based on qualifications, interests, and needs, including activities that support and advance a vibrant and collaborative learning health system.

POSITION REPORTS TO: Director, Galter Health Sciences Library

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides strategic and operational leadership for Galter Library’s research and knowledge management portfolio and works closely with the Library Director on program priorities and strategy, with an emphasis on efforts that expand Galter’s leadership in priority areas such as open science, data science and artificial intelligence, digital infrastructures and repository systems, evaluation and continuous improvement, and mobilization of computable biomedical knowledge
  • Oversees & ensures day-to-day operations of the research portfolio are appropriately managed, efficient, and effective.
  • Manages projects from conception to execution.
  • Develops and leads working groups and other collaborative activities to facilitate progress on priority areas.
  • Develops organizational frameworks and strategies to streamline workflows and data collection; operationalizes project goals & objectives; Identifies, develops, and implements key metrics to measure process and outcomes.
  • Contributes to/Leads development of program reports, grant proposals, manuscripts, and other outputs for a variety of audiences and situations.
  • Leads and participates in multi-disciplinary Knowledge Management projects, training, and other initiatives in the priority areas of open science, data science and artificial intelligence, digital infrastructures and repository systems, evaluation and continuous improvement, and mobilization of computable biomedical knowledge.
  • Contributes to communication activities and engagement efforts within the library, with institutional partners, external collaborators, and parties of interest, etc.
  • Mentors staff engaged in research activities and contributes to the core mission of the library.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Successful completion of a PhD-level degree in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of relevant research experience, or other related experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant library experience, completion of a library or information science degree, or other related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with grant workflows, including proposal development.
  • Project management experience with demonstrated ability to lead and/or execute multiple responsibilities simultaneously in an organized manner.
  • Must work well in a team-oriented environment and collaborate closely with others.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in person and virtually using a variety of media and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse population of faculty/staff, students, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in strategic and operational planning, collaboration, and action.
