Genies is culture’s avatar technology company empowering developers and artists to create their own interoperable gamified consumer experiences. The company has raised $250 million from investors including Silver Lake, BOND, NEA, and Bob Iger. Initially, Genies were adopted by thousands of Hollywood icons including Justin Bieber and Rihanna through partnerships with Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. Today, the company is also delivering avatars to the masses through experiences built with its Developer Kit and artist crowdsourced platform, The Workshop. These experiences all integrate together to form one avatar social network, Genies Party.
Genies is looking for an Applied Scientist Intern (LLM / Graphics) to join us this summer. Based at our Bay Area office in San Mateo, CA you will work closely with a dedicated and talented team of Engineers. Together, you will explore new concepts and technologies to further Genies’ mission of empowering users to develop their own avatar ecosystems. You will contribute in developing LLM-powered solutions that build and change 3D shapes, textures, and motions for avatars, wearables, and their surroundings, making them move and interact in exciting ways. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about creating high-quality visuals and has the technical foundation to help us build the next wave of digital identity.
What You’ll be Doing:
- Gaining expertise in multi-module applications, with a focus on incorporating large language models (LLMs) and computer graphics, while contributing to the development and enhancement of our cutting-edge avatar technology ecosystem.
- Working with an interdisciplinary team to research and develop deep learning solutions that create and augment meshes and textures in our avatar ecosystem.
- Absorb machine learning literature, particularly in NLP, 3D graphics, 3D motion, and quickly prototype new techniques by engaging with relevant research papers and textbooks.
- Explore the feasibility of productization, identifying issues and gaps that may lead to direct production implementations or inspire new research directions for publication.
- Present the culmination of your work to both the team and the broader company, showcasing the impact and potential of your contributions.
Minimum Requirements:
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD or Master degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field
- Solid foundation in 3D math, linear algebra, computational geometry and numerical analysis
- Deep understanding of and experience with the latest deep learning techniques related to NLP, computer graphics and multi-modal systems.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C++ and experience with machine learning libraries (e.g PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Hugging Face etc.).
- Ability to interpret and implement an algorithm, using appropriate data structures to efficiently solve a problem
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and effectively.
Preferred Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a PhD degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- Experience with developing 3D machine learning models for applications in motion generation, mesh editing etc.
- Familiarity with 3D software packages for manipulating data.
- Published research or participation in academic journals or top ML/AI conferences.

Compensation Range: $35 to $50 per hour based on qualifications
