The Data Science group is looking to add a technical leader and people manager to the team to work with data scientists and partners across a growing set of key business-facing initiatives. The Manager, Data Science will play a critical role in driving broad impact at MongoDB through aligning the team’s technical capabilities with appropriate business contexts, working directly with stakeholders to connect what needs to be impacted with how data science and machine learning can provide that impact. We are growing adoption of data science models across the business, and you will help us increase this velocity substantially.
We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in New York City for our hybrid working model.
As a leader on the centralized Data Science team, this role will have key externally- and internally-facing leadership responsibilities, including:
- Working with many stakeholders across different verticals, navigating the translation layer between business unit requirements and technical solutions. You will constantly build trust by showing how data science models impact key business metrics.
- Providing clear performance expectations for your team on a group and individual basis, prioritizing career development, technical mentorship, and growth opportunities.
(Additional) Responsibilities
- Act as a conduit between MongoDB Data Science and business stakeholders across GTM pillars, including but not limited to Sales, Marketing, Growth and Customer Success organizations
- Own end-to-end implementation of data science projects (feasibility analysis, data preparation, feature engineering, model evaluation, deployment, and maintenance) in collaboration with data analysts, data scientists, data engineers, software engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders
- Collaborate with MDB Research teams, working together to incubate/build prototype model solutions from research artifacts
- Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate effectively with end-users of data science products and respond to stakeholder needs
- Provide thought leadership to the broader organization on the best way of using machine learning technologies, frameworks and approaches to solve different problems
Skills & Attributes
- 3+ years of managing data scientists and showing meaningful business impact
- 5+ years experience working as a technical contributor, whether as a data scientist or machine learning engineer, in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working alongside product and engineering teams to deliver measurable value to the customer with predictive solutions
- Familiarity and comfort working in a large scale environments with unstructured or semi-structured data using SQL and Python (Mongo Query Language – MQL – a plus)
- Clear understanding of the risks and trade-offs involved in choosing different models
- Demonstrated understanding of the entire data science development lifecycle, including experience delivering data science artifacts to production deployment environments
- Effective at communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences, including business leadership
- Demonstrated commitment to building and maintaining a collaborative, enjoyable, and psychologically safe work environment
- [nice-to-have] Graduate degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative/computational discipline (social science, statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, etc.)

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. Please note, the base salary range listed below and the benefits in this paragraph are only applicable to U.S.-based candidates.
MongoDB’s base salary range for this role in the U.S. is:$143,000—$281,000 USD
