Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior ETL Security Engineer to join our team. This role is vital to securing the design, implementation, and management of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes across our organization’s data pipeline. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data security, ETL engineering, and cloud-based data architecture, with a specific focus on safeguarding data movement and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
As a Senior ETL Security Engineer, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data engineering, cloud architecture, and security operations, to ensure that data is securely integrated and managed.
Key Responsibilities
- Secure ETL Architecture Design
- Design, implement, and optimize secure ETL processes that ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and availability across all stages of data processing.
- Evaluate and deploy data security tools within the ETL environment, such as encryption, masking, tokenization, and anomaly detection.
- Data Security Best Practices
- Develop and enforce data security best practices within ETL pipelines, focusing on risk minimization and incident prevention.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA) by embedding security protocols into ETL processes.
- Vulnerability Assessment and Remediation
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration tests on ETL pipelines, identifying potential weaknesses and deploying remediation solutions.
- Develop automated alerts and monitoring systems to detect anomalies or security incidents within the data pipeline.
- Collaboration and Mentorship
- Collaborate with data engineers, security analysts, and infrastructure teams to incorporate security measures from development through deployment.
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering a security-conscious culture across the data and engineering teams.
- Cloud and Database Security
- Secure ETL processes within cloud and hybrid environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), ensuring data remains protected during cloud-native ETL operations.
- Implement robust security measures in data warehouses and databases used within ETL processes (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
- Documentation and Compliance Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of security practices, incident response plans, and compliance reports related to ETL processes.
- Support audit and compliance activities, responding to data-related security inquiries and providing required evidence for compliance.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Security, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in ETL, data engineering, or data security engineering.
- Deep understanding of ETL processes and data pipeline security, including tools like Informatica, Talend, Apache NiFi, or AWS Glue.
- Strong knowledge of cloud security principles and experience securing data pipelines in cloud environments.
- Hands-on experience with data encryption, masking, and tokenization.
- Proficiency in database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
- Experience with security frameworks and regulatory compliance standards, such as ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, or HIPAA.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related field.
- Certifications: CISSP, CISM, AWS Certified Security Specialty, or relevant data security certifications.
- Experience with data visualization tools and techniques for security monitoring and reporting.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex security requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
