Master thesis within Reinforcement Learning Flight Guidance (d/f/m)

In the past years, the achievements of Reinforcement Learning (RL) have reached mainstream popularity. Despite this technology’s advantages, its applications to complex and certifiable Flying Systems remain limited. We are looking for a creative Master student who is willing to explore, research and develop novel RL algorithms for robust aircraft guidance and control. The student will benefit from the close suppression of multiple experienced members of the Cross-platform Mission Systems (XPMS), a plateau tasked with development of advanced algorithms.

Your location
The Airbus Manching site is a busy two-runway airdrome, where more than 5000 employees develop, build and flight-test state-of-the art military aircraft like Eurofighter, Tornado, A400M and future systems such as the Eurodrone and FCAS.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Research and develop algorithms of RL controllers

  • Prepare articles and relevant documentation for publication

  • Utilize Python and C++ to extend existing environments

 Desired skills and qualifications

  • Enrolled Fulltime Master student (d/f/m) in Aeronautical Engineering / Mathematics / Computer Science or similar field of study

  • Relevant experience in Python and MATLAB/Simulink

  • Familiarity and excitement for: machine learning, flight systems

  • Good English skills

  • Excellent team player
