MDA Intermediate Research Engineer
Job Description
We are pleased to announce the opening for a Missile Defense System Intermediate Research Engineer who will join our Engineering Services Team at Redstone Arsenal, AL, and become part of our rapidly growing technology company operating in missile defense, cybersecurity, test range modernization, biotechnology, and space control marketspaces. Qualified candidates will be part of an exceptional team supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) mission to develop and deploy a layered Missile Defense System to defend the United States, its deployed forces, allies, and friends from missile attacks in all phases of flight.
Responsibilities:
Qualified candidates will be providing technical support for the MDA Technical, Engineering, Advisory and Management Support (TEAMS)-Next Specialized Engineering Analyses (SEA) contract. The unique, highly qualified SEA Team is critical to ensuring the MDA can rapidly develop and deploy Missile Defense System (MDS) capabilities to defeat advanced missile threats by aggressively pursuing advanced concepts and technologies for leap-ahead capability in directed energy, hypersonic missile defense, radiation hardened electronics, space-based sensors, and Israeli defense systems. The SEA Team provides comprehensive MDS Developmental Test analyses, future MDS architecture modeling and design, advanced technology analyses, and specialized engineering support to improve the development, testing, and fielding of cybersecure and tamper-proof upgrades to MDS Elements.
The intermediate Engineer will support the MDA Chief Architect, Architecture Design team, MDA/CAD. The MDA Architecture Design team is responsible for developing joint missile defense architectures addressing ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise (maneuvering) missile threats to protect the Homeland, regional Warfighters, Allies, and friends.
The selected candidates will provide specialized engineering and analytical support to the Director, MDA Architecture Design, providing MDS architecture design studies, demonstration and test, and analyses of alternatives (AoAs) for the Allied Missile Defense Mission to produce forward-looking Architecture Requirements Packages. Duties include:
- Evaluate future MDS concepts and modifications that improve MDS Performance
- Validate that proposed MDS concepts and modifications meet Warfighter capability needs
- Create and establish Allied Missile Defense Architecture Requirements Packages that:
- Define the goal – i.e., the threat, the mission, and the conditions under which the mission must be achieved.
- Summarize how far current plans are from meeting the goal – i.e., the capability gaps.
- Define constraints (e.g., geography, EM spectrum, policy) that limit the solution space.
- Determine which metrics to optimize (e.g., minimize fielding time subject to a set cost), when designing the proposed solution.
- Provide potential architecture updates and/or future concepts that meet the goal, subject to the constraints, optimizing the specified metrics.
Basic Qualifications:
At a minimum, qualified candidates must have:
- A bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, or computer science.
- At least 7 years of full-time professional experience in a technical field related to missile defense and/or technical analysis of a complex Department of Defense (DoD) weapon system.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience analyzing one or more Missile Defense System elements or components including Infrared (IR) or Radio Frequency (RF) sensor systems, missiles, space systems, communications systems, Battle Management, Command and Control, Communication (BMC3), and missile tracking systems.
- Preferred applicants will have experience in one or more of the following areas: conducting complex analytical studies, developing, or adapting analysis tools to suit needs, building reusable, well-documented MATLAB/Python utilities, assessing advanced concepts and technologies, and evaluating threat intelligence information as it pertains to new technology.
- Experience with MDA Systems Engineering processes.
