Job Description

Sword Technologies is seeking an experienced Microsoft Power BI expert to join our client in the finance sector. This role is crucial for implementing a comprehensive Power BI governance framework, ensuring robust, scalable, and secure solutions.

Role Objectives:

  • Implement a comprehensive Power BI governance framework.
  • Ensure seamless integration of all components for a robust, scalable, and secure solution.
  • Complete the implementation within the specified timeframe and budget.

Deliverables:

  • Configured Power BI governance framework.
  • Connected and operational data gateways.
  • Established development and deployment pipelines.
  • Comprehensive training materials and completed sessions.
  • Detailed governance documentation.

Role Responsibilities:

Architectural Design Review:

  • Review the architectural blueprint for Power BI governance.
  • Ensure alignment with the client’s business and technical requirements.

Environment Setup:

  • Set up development, testing, validation, and production environments (DEV, QA, VAL, PROD).
  • Configure workspaces in Power BI Service with proper naming conventions and access controls.

Data Integration:

  • Establish connections to data sources (Azure SQL Database, SQL Server, SAP BW).
  • Configure data gateways for secure data transfer.

Governance Framework Implementation:

  • Define roles and responsibilities (Report Consumer, Report Builder, Power BI Analyst, Master, Administrator).
  • Set up role-based access control (RBAC) and row-level security (RLS).
  • Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and standards for data quality, endorsements, certification, and discoverability.

Development and Deployment Processes:

  • Implement a DevOps framework for iterative development, testing, and deployment.
  • Use deployment pipelines in Power BI Service for automating content promotion.
  • Integrate Azure DevOps for version control and backup.

Monitoring and Alerting:

  • Set up monitoring tools to track user activity, report views, data refreshes, and resource utilization.
  • Configure alerts for specific metrics or events.

Training and Documentation:

  • Provide training sessions for different user roles.
  • Develop comprehensive documentation covering the governance framework, development guidelines, best practices, and user manuals.

Senior Microsoft Power BI expert

Work Hours, Travel Requirements, etc.:

  • Work up to a maximum of 100 days in 2024. As a consultant/freelancer, the BI developer is free to choose when to work with our client or to take holidays.
  • Weekly team meetings in Brussels.

Languages:

  • Dutch or French (Nice to have)
  • English (Full professional proficiency)
