Position Overview
Novelis is the world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling, producing an estimated 19 percent of the world’s flat-rolled aluminum products. We work alongside our customers to provide innovative solutions to the aerospace, beverage can, automotive and high-end specialty markets.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
The Novelis Digital Center of Excellence Data Science team is seeking an organized, data-driven curious intern to contribute to the development of our internal project components aimed to streamline simulation & optimization development lifecycle.
Basic concepts of databases, object-oriented programming, data-handling and combinatorial optimization are relevant skill sets for this position.
This role offers a hybrid schedule with at least two days per week in the Novelis Buckhead office. Our hybrid approach is designed to foster employee work-life balance and powers connection, collaboration, and a sense of community among our teams.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Understanding of basic concepts of linear and non-linear optimization.
- Current enrollment in an industrial engineering, operations research, mathematics, computer science or related technical degree program.
- Understanding of software and model engineering concepts such as versioning, user-oriented design, test-driven development, and agile development etc.
- Hands on experience with programming in Java and Python.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Desire for continuous development and learning opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree and currently enrolled in a graduate program in Operations Research or related discipline.
- Capability of mathematically formulating optimization problems.
- Familiarity with optimization solvers (commercial or open source), e.g., Gurobi, CPLEX, etc.
- Practical knowledge of heuristics and metaheuristics for addressing optimization challenges.
- Experience in metals manufacturing, particularly in the areas of process, quality reliability, and supply chain.
- Proficient in Java and Python
