The overarching goal of the Center for Brain and Health is to advance the understanding of brain function in health and disease, with a particular emphasis on disorders that are prevalent in the UAE. The Center will achieve its goal by jumpstarting interdisciplinary research programs at the nexus of NYUAD’s strengths in Brain, Health, and Data Science, and by pursuing translational and commercialization opportunities with its clinical and industry partners.

The Research Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting primary research efforts within the lab. This includes contributing to data collection and analysis, training new lab members, managing equipment and consumables procurement, and preparing manuscripts. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in neuroimaging and/or genomics data analytics, with programming proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and/or R. Familiarity with high-performance computing environments, as well as machine learning and artificial intelligence applications, is advantageous. The successful candidate must exhibit attention to detail, exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills, and effective oral and written communication abilities. The willingness and ability to learn various techniques used in the lab are essential.

 

Responsibilities

Conduct Literature Reviews: Review relevant scientific literature to stay abreast of current research trends and findings. Summarize and synthesize key information for the research team

Planning Data Collection and Analysis: Collaborate with the research team to plan and execute data collection activities. Develop strategies for effective data analysis, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.

Research Participants Recruitment: Implement recruitment strategies to identify and engage suitable research participants. Maintain ethical standards and compliance with relevant regulations in participant recruitment

Performing Analysis of Genomic and/or Neuroimaging Data: Utilize expertise in genomics and/or neuroimaging data analytics to conduct thorough analyses. Interpret and report findings, contributing insights to the research team

Effective Communication: Regularly communicate progress, challenges, and findings to Principal Investigators and team members. Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless information flow within the research project

Training New Lab Members: Facilitate the onboarding and training of new lab members, ensuring a smooth integration into ongoing research activities. Share knowledge and best practices to enhance the skills of team members

 

The candidate will also work on individualized research projects under the supervision of the faculty during the duration of his/her tenure

Qualifications

 

Required Education, Certifications, Licensing or Training

–         BS in neuroscience, biology or relevant STEM field

Preferred Education, Certifications, Licensing or Training

–         MS in neuroscience, biology or relevant STEM field

Required Work and Related Experience

–         Neuroimaging or genomics data analytics and programming experience in MATLAB and Python
