We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied Ph.D. program in the area of Vehicle Data Stream Management – Vehicle Data Architecture. The Digital Vehicle Infrastructure team focuses on applied research to create a robust and scalable architecture for modern vehicles. We investigate areas such as semantic data modeling, data synchronization, hardware abstraction, data stream management, processing, and reasoning to bring value to the company and leverage promising technologies. In this context, we currently offer the doctoral research topic “Optimizing data stream management for increased semantics and reduced payload size.”
What awaits you?
- Investigating state-of-the-art approaches for optimal data stream management.
- Proposing novel ideas to find the proper trade-off to maximize the use of the constrained resources (e.g., storage, processing, bandwidth).
- Development, testing, and implementation of prototypes to validate the proposed ideas with tangible artifacts.
- Socializing and communicating advances with both technical and non-technical audiences to foster collaboration and understanding.
- Disseminating research advances according to the guidelines of the supervising university (pre-arranged intend of supervision by the Technical University of Berlin).
What should you bring along?
- Possessing an academic degree which allows the registration as a doctoral candidate in Germany (e.g., Master’s of Science). This degree should be in an area related to Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, or similar.
- Strong programming skills in at least one language (e.g., Python, Java, or C++) and familiarity with Software Engineering best practices (e.g., version control, documentation, test units, etc.).
- Confidence and previous experience with data streams, data modeling, and database concepts.
- Familiarity with cloud technologies, distributed systems, and knowledge graphs (or ontologies) would be a plus.
- Proficient English language communication skills.
