PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

CPKC is hiring an experienced Power BI Developer. This individual will participate in developing business intelligence solutions that collect, analyze, and present information to the business, and subsequently develop the solution to address the business requirements. 

This position is located in Calgary or Kansas City. 

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

• Responsible for successful delivery of functional and technical components of Business Intelligence (BI) reporting solutions using Power BI

• Primary responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze business requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and implement BI solutions accordingly

• Design and develop complex Power BI solutions, including data models, reports, and dashboards, to support business requirements and drive data-driven decision-making

• Implement best practices for data modeling, data integration, and data visualization to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and usability of Power BI solutions

• Optimize DAX and M queries, as well as data transformation processes, to improve report performance and data refresh times

• Implement and manage security measures, including row-level security, object-level security, and data encryption, to ensure data confidentiality and compliance with regulatory requirements

• Stay updated with the latest developments in Power BI, including new features, updates, and best practices, and evaluate their applicability to the organization’s BI strategy

• Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior developers, as well as support and training to end-users, on Power BI tools, techniques, and best practices

• On-call support for Power BI reports, Dashboards

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or any related field

• 5+ years of experience in developing business intelligence solutions using Power BI, with a strong focus on data modeling, data visualization, and report development

• Expertise in SQL, DAX, and M languages, as well as proficiency in data integration techniques using Power Query Editor

• Good understanding of following tools:

            Tabular Editor

            SSAS

            DAX Studio

            ALM Toolkit

• Relevant certifications in Power BI (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate) is an asset

• Knowledge of the Railway business is an asset

The successful candidate will need to successfully complete the following clearances:

  • Reference check
  • Driver’s License verification and/or last 3 years of driving history if a requirement of the position
  • Background checks that may included 7 years of employment history and Social Security number verification

 

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
