Job DescriptionIn this role, you will be working with groups of extremely talented engineers to revolutionize how new insurance products are defined and managed throughout its business lifecycle. You will be working on the latest forward-looking technology stack that underpins one of the most critical initiatives that Allstate has ever undertaken in its history – ASC (Affordable Simple Connected). We embrace new ideas and fresh perspectives that our engineers bring to the table and work iteratively to quickly prove out concepts while reducing time to market for our customers to realize the dramatic value that we bring to the ecosystem. Our engineers are empowered to be curious while developing new technical and design skills throughout our technology stack.
From back-end to front-end, our work is multifaceted, and no two deliverables are alike. • Participates in iteration planning meetings ensuring that the team has a common understanding of each story and chores in a team s backlog• Leads and participates in daily site, cross-site, and product team standups• Participates in retrospectives to gather feedback and derive actionable items to improve the team and the product• Participates in executing the strategy, keeping the customer needs and wants in mind• Serves as an expert on a specific business domain and demonstrates leadership and accountability on at least one technology stack• Provides input into the architecture and design of the product; collaborating with the team in solving problems the right way• Practices daily paired programming and test-driven development in writing software and building product• Establishes continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and practices• Provides support for software products in user environments• Coaches more junior team members around different technologies and XP practicesFunctional Skills:Required skills/knowledge:Strong understanding of computer science concepts, object-oriented design principlesHands-on experience with Java and J2EE technologies such as Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring IOC, Spring Annotations, Spring AOP, Spring Transactions and Spring Security Strong on REST API’s and familiarity with microservice architecture is required.
Solid knowledge of database design, indexes design, complex queries, explain plans and implementation on any NOSQL databases like MongoCreating products within Test Driven Development; including knowledge and experience in testing frameworks like Junit, Mockito, JestUtilize continuous integration and DevOps methodologies, preferred tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, SonarQube etc. Contribute to the code base and ensure code and processes adhere to clean code practices and industry/application best practices. Desired skills:Any front-end technologies such as JavaScript, React, Angular, or similar frameworksUtilize quality and security scan tools such as Sonar, Fortify and Contrast, or similarExperience with messaging systems such as Kafka or similar toolsPractical cloud knowledge with technologies such as PCF, AWS or other cloud technologiesEducation and Experience:• 4 year Bachelors Degree (Preferred)• 3 or more years of experience • In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
