Programmer / Data Analyst, Obesity Core
Job Description
The Weight Management Center at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, in collaboration with the Wake Forest School of Medicine’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) are seeking a Programmer skilled in large administrative dataset work, data visualization, and data science techniques. Our team will use EHR data and other large datasets (including commercial, remote monitoring devices, and mobile applications) to support population health initiatives, demonstrate the impact of clinical weight management interventions, recruit participants for clinical trials in obesity, and conduct observational research on patients with obesity and related conditions. The programmer in this role will support these initiatives by developing data dashboards and visualization of key metrics, modifying EHR data to create analysis-ready datasets, and creating phenotypes that can be applied to identify potentially eligible patients of interest.
Duties include:
- Attend project and departmental meetings and contribute to the project design concerning data management needs
- Collaborate with faculty, team leads, and stakeholders to anticipate, define, and satisfy data needs. This may include time-sensitive requests for clinical trial start-up work or data pulls required to submit research grants on a deadline.
- Utilize visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI to design and implement interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to support various enterprise initiatives
- Develop data preprocessing pipelines to ensure high-quality input for models and algorithms
- Convert EHR (i.e., Epic) data pulls to analysis-ready datasets based on specifications from clinical and research faculty
- Document code, methodologies, and results for effective knowledge sharing
- Develop and maintain data visualization best practices and standards to ensure consistency and quality across all reporting
- Conduct regular evaluations of existing visualizations to ensure continued accuracy and identify areas for improvement
- Performs other related duties as needed
Essential Skills
- Strong experience with visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, or R Shiny
- Working knowledge of research methods and statistical techniques, and how to apply them accurately and appropriately
- Familiarity and experience with Agile or a similar project management methodology
- Superior oral and written communication skills to translate complex data into consumable visualizations and into presentable digestible explanations
- Working knowledge of SQL, Oracle and SQL Server databases
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
- Experience in continuous quality improvement methodologies and practices a plus
- Familiarity with medical data, standards, and terminology a plus
- Experience working in a cloud environment a plus
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with computer courses and three years’ experience in computer programming with healthcare data or statistics required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in computer programming.
