Job Description

The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is the largest solar research institute in Europe. Our approximately 1400 employees work towards a sustainable, economical, safe and socially just energy supply system based on renewable energies. We contribute to this with our research focus on energy supply, energy distribution, energy storage and energy use. Through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, company spin-offs and global cooperation, we are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system.

 

Our team “Data-based Management of Energy Systems” deals with the economic, technical and regulatory requirements of decentralized energy systems and decentralized supply concepts (e.g. neighborhoods, energy communities or energy sharing).

 

Are you passionate about energy management and algorithm development? We’re on the lookout for a student assistant to join our team and dive into the exciting world of cutting-edge technology!

 

What you will do

 

  • You will work together with our team on innovative projects.
  • You support the design and implementation of battery control algorithms to optimize energy management systems.
  • You will investigate and implement algorithms to control the charging process of electric vehicles.
  • You will develop and analyze load and power profiles for smart grid systems.
  • You will support us in the preparation of scientific reports and presentations.

 

What you bring to the table

 

  • You are studying in the fields of engineering, computer science, renewable energies or sustainability.
  • You formulate your ideas in a comprehensible way and listen attentively to others.
  • You feel comfortable immersing yourself in the world of algorithm development, knowledge of Python is required. (C++ is an advantage)
  • You have a basic understanding of optimization and control theory topics.
  • You are enthusiastic about learning and implementing machine learning applications.
  • You have teamwork skills, initiative and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
