Position Information
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Futures Institute invites applications for a full-time, grant-funded, non-tenure track position.
University Information: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is the 1890-Land-Grant University in Maryland, located in a rural setting on the Delmarva Peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. The major metropolitan areas of Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia, PA are within easy travel distance.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts research and development in the area of human centered AI including implementing ongoing collaborative research projects among UMES scientists on autonomous systems.
  • Specifically, conducts research and develops legged robots, autonomous ground vehicles, or autonomous aerial vehicles.
  • Works with the Futures Institute faculty for hypothesis development and experimental design. Leading research projects in studying the architecture, design, algorithms, actuation, and working of autonomous systems.
  • Conducts data processing, analysis, reporting, testing, manuscript preparation, and presentations.
  • Assists in managing the research in the lab.
  • Mentors and supervises PhD students.
  • Applies for grant funding in collaboration with other faculty.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Robotics, Electrical/Computer/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline from a US R1 university or foreign equivalent.
  • Postdoctoral experience at a leading research university.
  • One or more years of experience in Robotics, Navigation, Control, Haptics, VR, or Machine Learning.
  • Experience designing and building autonomous systems/agents.
  • Must have strong programming skills.
  • Must have refereed publications in leading scientific journals.

  • Must have strong programming and research skills.
  • Must have strong written and communications skills.
  • Ability to form collaborative partnerships.
  • Must have the potential to develop and deploy innovative autonomous ground or aerial systems and/or legged robots.
  • Ability to work with diverse faculty and student body.
