Your Challenge

Great Minds. One Goal. Canada’s Success.

Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada’s largest research and technology organization.

We are looking for a Research Officer (RO) to support the accelerated discovery, design and development of new clean energy and/or energy storage materials. The incumbent will form part of the Clean Energy Innovation Research Centre’s new Research Facility in Mississauga. The selected candidate would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

You will be working in a team environment with researchers and technical experts in our world-class facilities. Your role will focus on advancing research towards the next paradigm through the development and integration of a sophisticated data management framework in the theoretical, experimental, and material discovery workflows of autonomous self-driving laboratories.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with leads in accelerated material discovery and subject matter experts to develop and implement comprehensive data strategies that enable seamless tracking, integration, and management of various data types from experimental, theoretical, and simulation sources. You will be responsible for all aspects of the data management process, from data collection and validation to the architecture of databases and data integration systems. As we aim to significantly enhance our capabilities in this area, you will have opportunities to explore, suggest, and develop new data management frameworks and architectures that meet diverse needs across a broad spectrum of materials science objectives at CEI-Mississauga. You will either take charge of or collaborate with software developers to ensure that the data infrastructure supports advanced data analytics and machine learning applications.

Additionally, you will support the advancement of our IT and HPC (High-Performance Computing) infrastructure necessary to facilitate this paradigm shift in materials discovery. This includes participating in pilot programs to test use case studies on proposed corporate solutions, ensuring robust and scalable data management capabilities.

You will be involved in the development of new research proposals, management of research projects, maintenance of research partnerships with external academic, industrial and government collaborators and supervision of junior staff, students and vendors.

Being in a dynamic position means that the workdays are always evolving, challenging and motivating. You are a self-starter who can excel in an evolving and exciting R&D environment and provide input into the direction and priorities of R&D activities that will be set forth by this new initiative in Mississauga. If you are that person, this may be the perfect role for you!
