WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Our team “Artificial Intelligence (AI) Solutions for Supply Chains” develops innovative solutions to derive insights from data that support better and faster business decisions. We implement (Generative) AI-driven solutions in its complete lifecycle for users in supply chain management around the world. We are looking for a talented Semantics Engineer for Supply Chain Management. With your expertise we want to build new use cases on our (Gen)AI-driven web application for Supply Chain and Logistics more efficiently.
About the Job: As a Semantics Engineer for Supply Chain Management, you will support scaling new use cases in our AI-driven Web application that enables us to create a new experience in supply chain decision making.
• Drive the development of the Data Excellence (Data Products, Semantic Layer, connection of Ontology Management Framework, Graph Tech Stack, Data Catalog, Data Marketplace, … etc.)
• Ensure seamless integration of Data Excellence components (e.g., OMF with the BASF Data Catalog), collaborating closely with the Product Owners, Solution Architects and data analysts.
• Automate processes and workflows to streamline operations and synchronize data with connected systems.
• Collaborate within the product team to understand supply chain decision making rules, devise new features, and implement solutions that facilitate dynamic data interactions.
• To ensure success as a Data Engineer with focus on semantics, you should have in-depth knowledge of data engineering and relating data to decision making situation of users.
• You will collaborate with global and regional BASF service units and external partners in both project delivery as well as service and support.
• In your role, you support the transition from project phase to successful operations for the new AI-driven Web Application for supply chain decision making.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work in a team with experienced data scientists, data & software engineers & product owners and create scalable, reusable and performant data-driven applications running in productive environments
• Convey technically difficult concepts in a clear and understandable way, translate business needs to technical specifications, and provide guidance for knowledge graph & ontology development to other teams
• Drive the sustainable implementation of our new GenAI-oriented Supply Chain Intelligence platform, including:
– Data integration for various Supply Chain AI solutions.
– Utilizing enterprise data product, semantic and ontology concepts.
– GenAI functionalities.
• Create product requirement documents and maintain it in an agile working mode, e. g. in Azure DevOps boards and tasks.
• Work in an international and agile DevOps environment and apply agile principles for setting priorities and managing multiple stakeholders in a challenging business environment.
• Share your knowledge and expertise with colleagues and promoting a culture of data-driven innovation within the organization
• Manage communication with external vendors to validate the landscape design & integration concept.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s or higher degree in information technology, computer science, natural sciences, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of working experience in data engineering, building (semantic) knowledge graphs, querying (graph) data using standard query languages (SQL, SPARQL), extracting information using Natural Language Processing & GenAI / GPT.
• Experience with Agile software-development using Scrum / Kanban.
• Excellent programming skills in Python, including mastering standard libraries for data engineering, machine learning and data science; knowledge of at least one other programming language (e.g. Java, Vue3, React) is a plus.
• Familiarity with machine actionable languages (e.g., RDF), linked data principles and standards, & OWL-based ontology modelling in commonly used tools.
• Solid understanding of at least one of Graph Analytics, Machine Learning, GenAI.
• Experience with Cloud technologies like Microsoft Azure (e.g., Synapse, Databricks, Purview), CI/CD using e.g., git, docker, Azure Devops.
• An independent (“can-do”), solution-oriented and team-oriented way of working, not afraid to take on responsibility.
• Strong desire to learn & upskill at the intersection of data, science & industry.
• Supply Chain domain knowledge.
• Comfortable working in highly complex environment with multiple stakeholders and with strong pressure to deliver on time and on budget.
• Strong Communication & Presentations skills.
