About the Job
The Senior Analyst is part of the BI & Research stream of a broader Analytics & Research Team, supporting a spectrum of business stakeholders. The Senior Analyst provides insights into current and likely future behaviour of Rest’s members and employers by finding innovative connections through data mining, deep dive analysis, visualisation and data storytelling.
This role is embedded and will work day-to-day within a cross-functional Data and Insight product team. Vision, roadmap and priorities for each team is set by a product owner. Each team will contain the skills required to deliver working solutions to end-users (including, but not limited to, analysts, engineers, quality assurance, scrum master, etc).
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
- Designs, develops and implements analytical solutions to derive member insights as part of a cross-functional data and insights product team. As needed, this includes deployment of new analytical data models through sourcing, transforming and modelling necessary data.
- Works closely with business stakeholders to ensure analytical solutions meet needs, deliver insights and contribute to the development of business plans and strategies.
- Adheres to governance principles and guidelines, ensuring that solutions delivered are resilient, scalable, and consistent with Rest’s existing framework and risk appetite.
- Performs in-depth analysis using SQL and other analytical tools (eg Python, Github).
- Designs, builds and maintains Tableau dashboards to facilitate data-driven decision making and a self-serve analytic culture amongst stakeholders at Rest. Provides training and support in Tableau navigation, usage and interpretation to stakeholders as needed.
- Contributes to the development of the practice of insights, analytics and visualisation at Rest via a range of forums.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in mathematics/statistical modelling/computer science or related discipline
Required experience, understanding or credentials including:
- Minimum 5 years of work experience in a similar role.
- Solid experience with a range of databases and a high level of data literacy.
- Proven track record of using SQL/Tableau Prep/Python (or equivalent tool) to clean, transform and analyse data.
- Proven track record of using Tableau/PowerBI (or equivalent data visualisation tool) to deliver actionable insights and dashboard reports.
- Analytical skills to combine both quantitative and qualitative information that allows for the development of insights-driven reports and dashboards.
- Experience of working in an Agile environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively relate data and information to a non-technical audience.
- Strong ability and interest in translating data into information; information into knowledge; including the ability to identify data patterns, trends and linkages.
- Strong eye for detail and numerical accuracy.
- Exposure to cloud-based platforms (E.g. AWS Redshift. Snowflake), Agile tools (E.g. Jira, Confluence) required.
- Exposure to machine learning methodologies and tools (E.g. R and Python) preferred.
- Industry knowledge preferred – experience and/or understanding of superannuation/ financial services industry/insurance.
