Senior Catastrophe Risk Analyst
Job Description
Short Summary
The Senior Nat Cat Analyst analyses and prices P&C reinsurance treaty business for assigned markets and lines of business. The role also participates in developing, cultivating and maintaining the Pricing & Modelling community, driving innovation and fostering a culture of service through various projects. Support the Regional Pricing & Modeling (P&M) Manager with ensuring smooth operations, by ensuring pricing and accumulation monitoring are timely, accurate and compliant with guidelines and with the catastrophe risk management of SCOR’s portfolio.

Key duties and responsibilities
- Support Cat Modelling, Pricing and Accumulation:
- Deliver catastrophe risk pricing of treaty reinsurance using the vendor models, experience and/or internally developed tools as per SCOR process and guidelines
- Monitor and validate used capacity using specific tools
- Contribute to the development and implementation of consistent process and procedures for pricing, and best practices for modelling, including tool development
- Mentoring more junior staff during the renewal processes and project work
- Be a reference and lead for one or more markets
- Mentoring of interns
- Analytics:
- Support projects and follow-up questions / modelling assumptions brought up by underwriters and/or analysts
- Will be involved in communication with underwriters and/or analysts regarding follow-up questions / modelling assumptions
- Contribute to global transverse initiatives (Cat Systems, Analytics and Governance, wider Reinsurance or Specialty Insurance units)
- Participation to seminar and internal training on Cat Modelling
- Lead projects
Project / Research:
- Lead projects to answer underwriter-specific queries on hazard, vulnerability and model behaviour
- Understand and interrogate vendor models to develop appropriate risk-views for pricing and accumulation
- Lead research related to better understanding of natural perils
- Mentor junior staff
- Be a reference on the modelled risk view for all natural perils in the regions and markets under his/her responsibility
- Support business as required with client visits
Experience
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office (Proficiency in Excel). Strong knowledge with SQL and GIS. Programming skills ideally in R or Python.
- Expertise in using RMS RiskLink/RiskModeller and/or AIR Touchstone user interface platforms
- Strong analytical skills. Pro-active, hands-on mentality and can-do attitude. Self-starter and solution oriented. Flexible, can adapt according to priorities.
- Clear communicator, able to structure an argument and ability to explain complex issues in a simple way. Team player, interested in sharing knowledge and helping to develop the team.

Required Education
- Excellent academic qualifications including a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, other scientific discipline (statistics, physics, natural science), economics or finance
- An advanced degree (master’s or PhD) would be a plus
- Insurance qualification or actuarial credentials are strongly preferred
