The Senior Data Analyst plays a vital role within Optus’ Data Centre of Excellence, providing strategic insights and recommendations to guide business decisions, improve customer outcomes, achieve targets, and identify growth opportunities. Operating within the Risk & CX Analytics chapter, this role champions the value of analytics and proactively applies it to drive impactful results across the organisation.
Focused on Data Loss Prevention (DLP), the Senior Data Analyst will analyse and extract insights from Microsoft Purview, assessing user activity metadata across critical egress points like email, USB, and web. Through the creation of dashboards and reports, the role ensures insight into potential threats and identifies areas of concern to improve data security and mitigate risks. Working within a multi-functional team, the Senior Data Analyst contributes to analytics strategies and delivers insights that strengthen organisational protection and performance.
The day to day
- Analyse Data Loss Prevention (DLP) insights using Microsoft Purview, focusing on user activity across key egress points such as email, USB, and web.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to identify potential security threats, mitigate risks, and improve data protection.
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams to address business challenges, translate them into actionable analysis plans, and implement proactive data security strategies.
- Mentor Data Analysts in querying, analysis, and presenting findings, while delivering structured recommendations to senior business partners.
- Drive innovation in data and analytics, identifying growth opportunities, engaging customers, and contributing to business insights and trading performance delivery.
Why you are our next Senior Data Analyst
- Relevant professional qualifications in a STEM field (e.g. Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Engineering, Statistics)
- Long tenure and demonstrated ability in a large, sophisticated organisations, with a background in digital environments and the telecom industry preferred.
- Expertise in advanced data visualisation techniques and tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik) and strong insight generation and problem-solving skills to tackle complex challenges.
- Proficient in data wrangling, performance tuning (e.g., SQL, Alteryx), and handling both structured and unstructured data sources, including relational databases and cloud-based solutions.
- Solid understanding of Agile and Waterfall methodologies, team workflow management using tools like JIRA, and foundational knowledge of Data Science concepts.
- Good communication and influencing skills, paired with sound business, financial, and commercial foresight.
