This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of Data Analysts, driving the transformation of data assessment to strengthen intelligence-led regulation and improve performance in the Water Sector.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative senior data specialist to be at the heart of work to deliver digital transformation, providing advanced data analytics capabilities at a national level to improve delivery of regulatory activities across the business. With the growing availability of big data in the Water Industry, this role offers a unique chance to make a significant business impact in a high-profile area.
In this role you will:

• Lead the planning and development of new and innovative approaches to the analysis, interpretation and communication of compliance data.
• Lead and coordinate a portfolio of data solutions, leveraging team resources to meet tight deadlines and a high standard of quality and efficiency.
• Provide technical input into Digital Discovery, working with other digital programmes including the Regulatory Services Programme and Environment Monitoring Programme with a focus on compliance and system interoperability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to identify innovative solutions that support an evidence-led approach to Water Regulation.
•Have the opportunity to line manage

You will also be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents. This may attract an additional payment and full training, and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you.

The team
 

You will join the Digital Innovation and Regulation Team in Water Regulation, part of the National Environment and Business (E&B) directorate. We currently play a central role in shaping and delivering the Environment Agency’s data and evidence led approach to regulating Water Companies.

In E&B we promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued. We use evidence, expertise, and innovation to enhance and support delivery, influence policy, legislation and secure resources.

Experience/skills required
 

• Experience leading innovative data initiatives from inception to completion, to improve business processes and performance.

• Proven ability to deliver high-quality work through effective collaboration, mentoring, and skill development within a team, while meeting tight deadlines.

• Significant experience managing and analysing large datasets using tools like R, Python, FME, ArcGIS, and the Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps), alongside platforms like Microsoft Synapse and Fabric for data integration and analysis.

• Expertise in implementing best coding practices, including adherence to standard code style, use of functions, control flow, version control, and comprehensive code testing and documentation.

• Experience of collaborating within an agile team, driving sprint planning, peer reviews, and retrospectives to deliver high-quality, iterative data solutions

• Excellent communication and presentation skills to work with stakeholders at all levels.

• Proven ability to ensure data quality and compliance with relevant data governance standards

You’ll have an EA Office base location, as a national role the working location is flexible / hybrid.
